Arshavin's Legacy
Depends on how you define good?
IMO he had a few average games but on the whole was positionally suspect. This has always been the case with TV but IMO his defensive deficiencies intensified due to his lack of game time. Given the Kos/Mert partnership that is not going to improve.
TV made it clear that he wanted first team football back in January, and irrespective of opinion, AFC will not be able to offer him regular playing time.
The next step therefore is for AFC to obtain the best deal possible – if that necessitates a move to Old Trafford then so be it.

I totally understand the thinking behind your point, but I think most clubs would be pretty pleased to have a player as good as Vermaelen as their 3rd choice cb. Don't forget his versatility. I agree he used to be positionally suspect but this season I didn't see that. Obviously he cannot offer us the pace of Kos or the height of Mert and he is not quite as dominant as either of them. But he is not far off. He is extremely professional and in my opinion his performances this season were impressive enough to be described as 'good'. I think he has actually learnt a bit from watching Kos and Mert. To sell a player like this to a direct rival would be silly.

Next season will be horrid - seeing Vermaelen, Fabregas, Van Persie, Fabianski, Cliche all lining up against us.
Vermaelen was pretty good in the games last season. A fantastic squad member - who else did/do we have?
Besides, he's our best-looking player. And he can't play alongside Vidic - lost twins.

Verm is much better looking than Vidic, but our team is getting uglier

We still have Ramsey. What a stud

If by selling to a “direct rival” AFC are able to improve our squad then so be it.
If he does go to United in all likelihood he will be swapping the bench at the Emirates for the bench at Old Trafford.

I disagree. We will do well to find another 3rd choice centre-back as good as Vermaelen. And don't forget a lot of people have questioned Monreal. He is more than capable of stepping up at left-back when Gibbs gets injured.

I am not sure what TV you were watching but last season IMO he was average at best, and a shadow of the player he once was. He was time and again caught out of position, ball watching, and as Kamran alluded to, was vilified on these boards by many for his poor displays.
At LB he was nothing short of a disaster, and I recall Sagna/Jenkinson even filling in at LB even when TV was fully fit - which in itself highlights how much AW was prepared to rely on him.
For a player who you have described as having a “good” season to be afforded 14 appearances suggests that AW has a different assessment.

I didn't say he had a "good" season, I said his performances when he was called upon were generally "good". I am not sure which TV you were watching either. He was pretty solid at left-back and decent and centre-back. Actually I think he was probably best at left-back. I guess we're just not going to agree. Let's leave it at that.

TV is experienced and good 3rd back up to have..selling him with no replacement ready..Also with Sanga off to City is just MADNESS.
This would mean we would need to sign 3 quality defenders this summer...What ya'all smokin'...throw that junk to tottyham.
