Looking at Costa Rica's displays so far has really highlighted the advantages of this system. The key to it is the change from 352 to 532 depending on attack or defence
We already know Roberto likes to use 3 centre backs and in Coleman Baines and Oviedo (maybe browning and Garbutt?) we have the perfect players to play the wingback role

Obviously it also highlights where we need to improve too. We need a striker for one of Naismith and Mirallas to play off and a midfielder to cover Gibson (I've heard rumours of banega but it's probably just paper talk)

I actually think this formation might suit Van Gaal's United - should we buy a CM or two (and should you care about United).

Cyclical, everything's cyclical. 5-3-2 was catenacio of the past, there's only so many formations can be played.
It's about the players and managerial instructions. I firmly believe that players footballing intelligence and ability to understand these instructions (actual intelligence, if you will) is key.
Players that have good spacial awareness and technique are key. Unfortunately in the uk 'putting in a shift' and 'strength' are more important than these qualities.
Which is why we need a grassroots complete change. (Think Dutch coaching). Sadly that's not the only factor, (rampant commercialism of the EPL, education etc..) it will be a while before we get there.

Bit controversial but actually I think Oviedo is a better player than Baines, he is a better defender and more two footed when going forward. Baines true position is as an attacking LM. Stones true position is as a Libero.

The biggest problem England's players have is tactical flexibility and understanding
Players from other countries seem to understand what to do and when whereas ours just fold under a bit of pressure

I think baines might be shifted to DM this season Martinez was talking about it last season and Oviedo will want game time. I think we might see this next season

I have said for many years that the 352 woupd work in the league. I thought we had the players in Moyes last season and the flexability to do this.
Think Roberto will use this more in Europe to fine tune the system
