After reading up on a few recent articles on rovers, the release clauses are actually there to protect the club and required by the club when completing contracts. Reason for this is if a top quality player drops a league he still can command a top salary which the club might not be able to afford, so this gives them a chance to desert the sinking ship and scarper (Duffy) or renegotiate there salary and stick around for another promotion push (poss Wellens & Copps).
So I was wrong in thinking the club was at fault in not securing the players for the future as it's more like club comes first!

There are no excuses now YD you have a pocket full of money

That is a very exciting read Alex.
I just wish that they wouldn't start with the getting to the PL stuff and now the lets be bigger than Man Utd.

Hound,
I too wish they wouldn't over hype.
The football authorities look in to the TO of clubs to assess the Fit and Proper Person and where the money comes from.
They wouldn't accept money being raised from a trust fund because there is no certainty they will have the money they need, hence the statement from the club that the fund money has nothing to do with the TO.
No one can doubt the determination of Ryan to pull this off.
I see it all as a "magical mystery tour"
What do I want to see? Entertaining competitive football and a club financially stable for years to come.
I refuse to hold Ryan to his dream, I will not berate him for failure to reach the prem but I can't say the same if we end up in trouble in years to come.

We are still chasing Peter Clark, but Barnsley are after him as well.
Husband, sounds like he is going to Hull?
We need some more players if we are to get 2 five-a-side teams for the Portugal training trip.
I did pick something up today but I can't verify if its true................we can't sign anyone till the 18th July. Thats another 18days surely that can't be right?

As i understand it Alex, there are players who have already agreed to come to the club but can't be announced just yet and some of them should be travelling with the squad to Portugal.
So...............just because they can't be officially signed doesn't mean that the deals aren't done.
It is interesting about Clarke, Huddersfield club captain last season.
A bit of de-ja-vu perhaps.
Last time we signed a club captain (Jones from SWFC) look what happened in the following L1 season.

Hound I would think something like that must be on the table otherwise the Portugal trip would be cancelled.
Clarky could be a gem for this season and essential to sign up but the thought of being beaten by Barnsley again to sign a player doesn't bear thinking about. It should be different this time because in theory YD has loads of money at his disposal.
The budget for the player fund mentioned at the club varies from the 2nd highest in the league down to 4/5th,
I will be happy with the 10th. In the end it depends on the quality of the player and how well they fit in with the team.
The comment about not being able to sign a player till the 18th is allegedly by Steve Uttley at the club? but I can't confirm that.

Looks like we could be losing Quinn or is he playing games again? PD is after Jon Otsemobor at 31 is he putting a dad's army approach to the team make up?
Experience over youth?
Having looked up his history it doesn't sound as though it would be an impressive signing but who knows?
Only 39 days.....4hrs.......31mins to go to Yeovil
It can't come soon enough.
I really enjoyed the Belles game the other day. A very entertaining game of football, tippy tappy football at its best. We need two players in mid field like MIlly Bright, tough as old boots. Sunderland are the team to beat to get promotion this season if you can get to one game get to that one.

As a resident of the Donny area i often have a look on your board and i am amused when i see the last comment about Rovers signing older players.
Why am i amused?
Well on our board there is concern that we (LUFC) are signing too many young players and that we need some old hands to guide them.
Who would be a football manager eh, can't do anything right.
I am interested in how your club develops under the new ownership.
It looks to be interesting and certainly is being better received than our under Cellino which is drawing much suspicion amongst our fans.

Mick,
To clarify the comment about dads army we took an elderly player Jones who later became captain fantastic and lead us to promotion, he did the job well. I dare say without contradiction had he remained fit we would still be in the Championship.
So with the right balance, experience, will be an asset.
We have a thing at Donny of self deprecation:
"We are a just pub team having a laugh"
but we are on our way up you just watch the signings next week don't forget its the synergy what counts on the field of play.
Nice to see you back in the league I live 20 mins down the road from the ground perhaps we should do a house swap?
