It really fecks me off the way the average England follower seems to forget all the ideals of following their team when it comes to the national team.
When supporting our teams in club football Glory Supporters are derided and we say how we should follow our team through thick and thin, yet when it comes to England people only want to show support for a winning team, if they lose or get knocked out a tournament everyone turns their backs, slags them off and will not be seen in the colours!
People making a big show of stuffing their flags in their wheely bins, I've had people tell me I should take the flag down outside my house (although it's there all year round, on a 20ft pole).
A Costa Rica fan on the radio this morning:, "I follow them win or lose!" And we see this attitude all over the World, but not in England! Here we moan, make big gestures of our disapproval, take down the flags, withdraw our support and will only show that England means something to us if the team wins.
Well not me at least, my flag will always fly and I shall never be ashamed of wearing a George Cross, Red Rose, Three Lions or England shirt with pride!
So why is England full of Glory Supporters and why do you just accept it?!!!
Fickle England Fans

Since the dawn of the Premiership, club football rules the roost in the UK. Fans have become more tribal and with social media, what used to be banter has turned into a whole world of bitterness. That means that most folk simply cannot put their club loyalty behind them when it comes to supporting England and that clouds their judgement. That then leads to bandwagon jumping, scapegoats and witch hunts which turns supporting England into a miserable experience for all involved.

Agree fully. You explained it better than I could.
Premiership rivalry has gotten more fiercer imo. Club rules the roost for most fans. No one wants to be associated with a losing team. Its all a case of getting one-upmanship over your rival fans on here and with England you cant do that.

To me, everyone should show an affiliation to the national team as we are all eligible to play for them. The players chosen are amongst the best players we have available that are of our nationality. If they then don't perform, then it is all of our fault as much as it is theirs as it is a reflection on us as a nation, not just those players.
I don't understand the overly critical supporters of the national team, seems bizarre to me.

My league club play at least 40 times a year and I only have to travel about 5 miles to home games.
My national team play about 6 meaningfull games per season and play all their home games at the other end of the country.
It's easy to see why people show more 'loyalty' to their clubs.

Fine, but if you have no loyalty for the national side then why bother? Rather join the throng when they win and qualify and then turn your backs when they get knocked out, why not just ignore them if you have a lack of loyalty towards them!

I chose to support derby, therefore I care about them deeply. I will support them for life, no matter what league they play in.
I have no interest in the national team, didn't watch any of their games, I can choose not to care about the national team as I have no affiliation with them aside from being born in england. I don't care about the england rugby or cricket teams either.
...............................................................................................
Absolutely spot on, a fine stance to take, if you have no interest then show no interest.
What bothers me is those who do take an interest, do watch the games and do support the team, and yet turn their backs when all goes wrong.
I'd guess you wouldn't do that to Derby!

The PL and CL has turned fans away from England.

Then they should stay away!

People in this country realise we are a big country deeply associated with football, with the PL and what not, so the national team comes across as an embarrassment that it has done so little on the international scene for 50 years, and often plays like a bunch of strangers. They would rather distance themselves from it and mock it than support it full time.
...........................................................................................
Well that says a lot about such people; they lack character!

Now that sounds like a reasonable explanation!

The players obviously don't care, so why should we?
