best team of last 15 years

As England stumble further into the abyss I was thinking of better times. Let's assume the 1990's were a write off. What was the best team/performance of the last 15 years?

I can't go past the 2004/2005 team. Obviously winning the ashes for the first time in what seemed like a lifetime was a significant event (crowning glory?) but I recall the winter series against a very good South Africa team.

I say I recall but obviously my mind is getting fuzzy: I thought the series was drawn but cricinfo reports that England won 2-1. I had just got cable TV then so I was able to watch the games here in Australia. Firstly I recall England battering a woeful West Indies but the SA series was something else.

It wasn't just that England won (that was nice) it was the way the played the game back then. Although, again, the figures contradict my memories - the run rate was quite conservative. I recall a swashbuckling outfit. Trescothick and Strauss were a good match for Langer/Hayden back then. Skipper Vaughan was imperious. Freddie was a fine all rounder and the bowlers shared the load.

That series led into a win against the Australians close to full strength (minus Glenn McGrath) who were undoubtedly the #1 team at the time. We all know what happened afterwards. The revival under Strauss was probably better with regard to results but I don't think the team looked as good.

Anyway, those memories have cheered me up prior to who knows what against India.

Cheers
