Could Podolski be the striker we need?

While he is an excellent scorer, the gaffer always uses him as a LM. Could he challenge Giroud upfront and give us that goal threat we need? He usually scores whenever he is played as a pure striker for us.

I actually think unless we can get one of the best strikers in the world we would be better off playing a formation with 2 deep midfielders and 4 attacking midfielders with no designated striker. We have the players for it with Pod, Walcott, Ozil, Cazorla and Sanchez (assuming it is happening) all able to get 20+ goals a season and they can chop and change and cause havoc in opposing defences who wont know whats hit them. And out of them at least Walcott, Pod and Sanchez would be able to move forward into the striker position throughout the match when the position is needed.

Thing about Pod is that if he doesn't score, he contributes nothing else - I think he had two assists all season, which for a player in that position is pitiful.

Giroud has his detractors, but you very rarely see him let the game pass by without ANY kind of effort to get involved - even if he has a frustrating game it's rarely for lack of trying, and if he doesn't score he's likely to assist.

Whereas Podolski will either score or contribute nothing.

Sounds nice in theory but would never work. The team needs structure and some sort of focal point in attack. Telling a bunch of talented attackers to just go out there and improvise just ain't gonna work. Plus when we lose the ball players need to know where or with whom their defensive responsibilities lie.

Besides, with the exception of Walcott once, there's no evidence that ANY of them are capable of 20+ goals a season for Arsenal, let alone all of them.

Unless we are still looking for a top striker, which unfortunately I doubt, Giroud will be starting most games next season, I guarantee it. And actually I think he should thrive with those players around him.

I am happy to let Giroud have another chance with clever runners like Ramsey around him and fast runners like sanchez and walcott. If he performs the focal point position well winning headers and ficking the ball with intelligence then he could really prosper

If he fails again or loses confidence, just drop him and start Sanchez upfront. Sanchez is tenacious and has that world class mentality to play the role well. If we get Remy too then even better, he can have a go.

Anyone else think that if we are buying Remy it means Wenger thinks Theo has lost it and will never be the same?

That's the problem.

He will have big confidence problems, we will be going for bigger prizes next season, and misses will have a big impact, he will be under greater scrutiny as the quality of his teammates improves.

I would have liked him to have made it, but at the moment I can only see him being a good sub.

Podolski has never been a first choice striker at ANY decent club he's played for.

Podolski is not the answer, unless the question is 'who would play badky as a central striker for arsenal? '

This has been done to death. Poor movement and as said above, contributes little to general play when he doesn't score.
