Smith to Milwall?

Reports this evening that Milwall have had a bid turned down for Matt Smith

Reported by Phil Hay and a Milwall journalist

Think smith has a big part to play still and should improve on last season

Doubt Milwall have much money to throw about so can't see bidding going over £1m

Could do with another Beckford, someone who scares the life out of defences with his pace.

If Smith plays in a team with wingers, he's a great asset, if there are no wingers, you're going to see Hoofball.

Chapman played in a team with Speed, Wallace, Dorigo and Sterland proving crosses.

Harrogate, pace scares the life out of defenders and would bums on seats, would be great to see some in the Beckford mould again.

Exactly what I said earlier!

Ah but it was you that said it StefanoDee...! That's what you need to remember.

Personally I think Smith will be a better player this season. I think he was showing signs of adapting to the Championship last term. He'll have a new team around him, he'll have players (hopefully with a bit of guile) to provide him and whoever he's paired with...!

I expect him to be round about the 25/30 goals mark this next campaign.

If he has a partner that does the same and others score we'll be up in the mix without a doubt.

Time will tell.

If Smith is the primary striker then given his size then hoofball seems the obvious tactic. I agree that with ball to feet he's certainly not the best (understatement there I suspect!).

I doubt somehow that he'll be our primary striker though. He'll be an option, a choice - a chance to vary the tactics depending on the opposition and how a match is going. Personally I think he's a useful addition to the squad, so hope we don't sell - unless we've a better option lined up.

Think he surprised a few last season, and certainly scored more than I expected. I'd like to see if he can build on that good start.

Agree with all of that VOF.

Pro, Smith is effective in the air, not so on the ground, Harrogate has a good point, Smith is sort of player you have if hoofball is your aim.

Wing play is what I was getting at.

I honestly dont think he would be effective in a team with wingers.

Unfortunately he is so slow that the only way he could play in a side with wingers is if he stayed upfront all the time and literally just hung in and around the goal area.

Anything else and he is too slow, he gets left for dead, he gets left for dead on the counter attack and if we were on the break wingers would be hanging around on the corner flag waiting for him to catch up.

If Millwall chucked in Simeon Jackson with that 500k I'd take it in a heartbeat.

If we managed to get Agard and Jackson in, I'd be happy with that lining up for us in attack

Are we talking about six-shooter Smiffy? The sharpest gunslinger in Italy?
