New manager Same Celtic! Always cheated!

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/ronny-deila-slams-stupid-uefa-3862288

I knew before I came here that we had three qualifying rounds.

We need the biggest clubs in the Champions League. Celtic don’t deserve to have three rounds before going into the Champions League groups.

“It’s very unfair that going to the last 16, as we did two years ago, is not going to be recognised.

KR Reykjavik -

Celtic -2 10/3 with Paddy Power.

Its a qualifier in name ffs youve played better teams in your preseason

Just to make a point here also, getting to the last 16 is not always the best achievement in terms of country coefficient points.

Yes getting far in Europe gives you bonus points, but playing more matches and drawing/winning games in European competitions is what garners the most points to get the country ranking up, not getting further in the tournament, or moreover, getting to the last 16 in the Champions League ahead of a Europa League campaign.

Rangers played qualifiers, champions league group games and uefa cup knockout stage matches all the way up to the final in 2008.

Rangers garnered 23.5 coefficient points for the country thanks to that.

Only three teams throughout the whole of Eruope garnered more country coefficient points:
Man United - who won the Champions League
Chelsea - beaten Champions League finalists
Barcelona - beaten semi finalists.

Rangers amassed more country coefficient points than every other club that got to the last 16, quarters or semis of the Champions League that season.

In 12/13, Celtic got the the last 16 of the Champions League and amassed 20 coefficient points. Thanks to their results in the groups and having played the qualfying matches, they amassed more points that Arsenal and Porto for example who went out at the same stage.

However, Viktoria Plzen got to the last 16 of the Europa League, the lesser competition, and amassed 19 coefficient points, only one less than Celtic garnered in the much tougher competition

So its not all about the last 16 here, which Celtic fans seem to think it is.

The only real difference in getting to the last 16 compared to a Europa League campaign is money, not coefficient points

Stevie

Ideally we can get to the CL group stages and then finish 3rd with having secured at least 2 victories and then dropping into the Europa

I'd rather have a crack at the Europa League than a last 16 tie with Barcelona

I'd rather you didnt make the Champions League groups and had a campaign past xmas in the Europa League, purely from a bears point of view, so you can still get the country co-eff up but didnt get the £10-20m or whatever the amount is these days in your skyrocket
