Top 5 modern Clubs and the Emirates Stadium

A united poster put up a list the other day about iconic clubs and naturally he claimed liverpool, United and Celtic were the only iconic clubs in Britain. Fair enough I'm not in the mood to argue about that but in the capitalist world we live in, it counts for little as whats happening today is equally important.

I would like to believe Arsenal has a little bit of both when you compare it to say City who are very much a modern club or Liverpool who are prehistoric.

If I had to draw up a list of britains most modern clubs at the present moment factoring our spending power I would like to think Arsenal are the most modern club in Britain.

I know its a huge claim considering that united still make way more revenue than we do and still have a huge fan base but if you look closer, its like comparing Juventus and Milan

Factors like London, A well known and admired foreign manager like Wenger, Our young fan base and most importantly the Emirates and our trainning facility.

To those who haven't been to the Emirates, our stadium along with Wembely are simply stunning and the most modern stadium in the country. The only other stadium that I have been to that blew me away was the Alianz Arena.Players are blown away by such things and Im sure it is one of the factors that made Sanchez chose us ahead of Liverpool.

Anyway my top 5 of most modern clubs in europe would be

1) Real madrid ( They are simply the most glamourous club in world football)
2) Barcelona (Just have to put them in there for their fan base and simply having the best players in the world, not too convinced by their finances)
3) United & Arsenal ( I find these 2 hard to split but it all depends on what Van gaal does, if he flops like Moyes then they could be in trouble)
5) Cant decide between Bayern and Chelsea but probably Bayern.

In other news considering the estimated costs of building stadiums for clubs like Everton, liverpool and Spurs its important to remember that the Emirates was built for 390 million. If you consider that clubs like Milan don't even own stadium you have to marvel at the genius called Arsene Wenger.

I know such things only really benefit the Directors and shareholders but its simply stunning when you put it all into context.

How can you include Madrid and Barca but only make reference to one of those clubs' finances.

Both are hundreds of millions in debt to the state

You ask who are the most modern clubs.. But what criteria are you looking for when it comes to 'modern'

Do you mean new/updated stadia? If so then you can include Brighton or any of the Brazilian teams who's stadiums have just been upgraded or built for the World Cup. City can even stake a claim as their stadium is pretty much the first of its kind in the UK at least, which the Emirates is pretty much based on.

Or is it stable finances/living within your means? That narrows it down a lot.. Wipes out most 'big' teams. A few that do would be Arsenal, Dortmund, Bayern, Celtic, Ajax etc.

If talking about marketability/merchandise? Then Arsenal are nowhere near there, despite being in the most watched league in the world. Chelsea wipe the floor with them in that respect. Other clubs that have that sort of marketability and fan base around the globe would be Man Utd, Madrid, Barca, Celtic, Bayern
