3rd choice centre back!

With Vermaelen looking destined for united, where do we find a player of similar experience and quality to be our third choice?

Verm is still a very good player and unless we get a player swap from united (not sure who, sampling maybe) we should not be even considering selling to them whatsoever.

It's unlikely that per and kosc are going to have a injury free season and even maintain the standards they set last season so selling Verm doesn't make sense.

Yes he may not be happy but surely with the league and all the cup competitions, he will get a chance.

So who can buy to replace Verm and potentially be our 3rd choice?

Personally I would definitely prefer prem player

We need to sign a replacement first before selling Verm. Very unlikely that Per will be back for the start of the season and we need Verm back.

I really have no idea. I expect someone young and who can challenge Per and Koscielny.

We need a 3rd AND 4th choice CB - not just a 3rd choice one. Even more so with Sagna who could provide CB cover having gone. It was pretty foolish to enter last season with just 3 CB's and luckily, we never had an injury crisis in that position. Just another of Wenger's insane, self-destructive decisions.

I think that Egyptian chap will be the fourth choice CB.

Think last season wenger backed sagna to be that cb when desperately required.

We don't have that luxury this season so yes in essence we need two

With the news today that De Vrijes is waiting on the call from { http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/it/d/d4/Butthead.png } and the fact that they still have Smalling, Evans and Jones there may ne no interest in signing a 5th CB.

Can someone please tell me why we keep selling our players to our rivals?

I would take Smalling.

Indeed, why not - might be content with a squad rotation role and English to boot.

But I suspect United are not keen on the idea, hence the reports on us bidding for William Carvalho, a DM who can also play CB although I am not that sold on the idea as such. We've seen that with Song (who was a CB to begin with), and with Barca's unsuccessful attempts to play Mascherano as a CB.

Still, we need to find that replacement before we consider selling. If we don't do that, we're scr.ewed.
And I also agree we need 4 CBs, so in essence, we still need two CBs.
