We thought the signing of Cristian Gamboa was a 'done-deal' and officially to be announced last Friday which became Saturday which became today, Monday.
Has Everton or Hull hijacked the deal with a last minute bid ? If so its a great pity given the rave reviews of his performance in the World Cup.
Hopefully that is not the case but just red tape.
Cristian Gamboa - Is it going pear shaped?

What are you on about now, Pundit? I've been in the UK for 5 days now and my break is over, so it's time for me to return to work.
Are you still being ridiculed on the Wolves boards?

Ouch refused work permit ...... ;-(
Albion set to appeal .........
Matter set to go before FA appeal panel
ALBION are processing a work permit application for Cristian Gamboa after agreeing a deal with Norwegian club Rosenborg to sign the Costa Rica international for an undisclosed fee.
The Baggies have also agreed personal terms with the right-sided player, who has passed a medical.
Gamboa started all five of Costa Rica’s World Cup matches in Brazil as Los Ticos won Group D and reached the quarter-finals.
However, the 24-year-old has not played the requisite number of international games over the past two years to get his work permit automatically endorsed by The FA.
The matter is set to go before an FA appeal panel on a yet-to-be-confirmed date.

If i've calculated it right Costa Rica have played 28 competitive matches in the last 2 years (ie not friendlies). Gamboa has played in 17 of those which works out at 60%. The automatic criteria is 75% so that's why it hasn't been automatically allowed.
But Gamboa's 17 appearances have come in Costa Rica's last 17 games which covered the world cup qualifying matches and the tournament itself. He is only 24 and now a permanent fixture in the team that finished top of England's group & got to the last 8. It would be incredibly harsh if he gets turned down but it's not impossible.
Doing the same with Enner Valencia who has just had his permit approved for West Ham. Ecuador have played 14 competitive games in the last 2 years or which Valencia played in 6 (43%). Both players are 24, Ecuador are currently fifa ranked 21 and Costa Rica 16.
So there doesn't appear to be any logical reason why they should turn down Gamboa's appeal now they have allowed Valencia

I'm pretty sure Gamboa's work permit will be granted if only because 1. he's played in every single one of Costa Rica's last 17 games, and 2. it wasn't possible to have played in 75% of Costa Rica's games in the last two years if he's only recently started to be picked.
BaggyBomber, thanks, and Baggie Man, 46 degrees here today.

@chrislepkowski: Valencia move to WHU (fewer caps for a lower-ranked nation) been approved. Would be surprising if any WP hitches re Gamboa #wba
