Hope I'm wrong but the coming season is going to be pants for us. No buyer and the sub-plot of Keane at the club (a few naff results and see the calls for the manager to leave rise).
Its just got all the ingredients of a misery season. There must be something seriously wrong at the villa when its not even had a sniff of a takeover. Also to make its into the top four these days calls for investment of at least £1bn.
Lets be honest its going to be miserable

I know a lot of Villa fans, they seem to have the laugh rather than cry type of mentality.
Some uninspiring signings to date, do you have financial difficulties because you used to spend a fair chunk?
Also, having attended a couple of games through work last season, the atmosphere is terrible, then I understand there isn't much to shout about right now. Feel sorry for Lambert.

Sounds like we have a glass-a-quarter-empty attitude in the Op.
1) No buyer. Doesn't matter. Everton have been up for sale for years. Looks like Lerner is prepared to put in enough to keep us going. Could be a lot worse.
2) Keane. Lambert's idea, a good one. Keane's got the knowledge, the experience and the enthusiasm, just what's needed on the training pitch.
3) Misery season. Why? We've all the players we had last season plus some very useful additions. We underperformed last season, probably due to ructions behind the scenes. Our performance against the top teams showed what we can do. Mid-table is a pretty good bet; I'll take that for now.
4) No sniff of a buyer. How do you know? There could easily be something brewing in the back room.
Be miserable if you want to be. I think this could well be an exciting season.

As always agree with you McP.
Some people don't half look on the downside of things. I am suprised they manage to get themselves out of bed!!!!!!!

I think it could be quite miserable. However, if we do sign Moses and Ki, and retain Vlaar and Delph, we have a pretty decent first XI. Certainly good enough to stay in the league
Guzan
Lowton Vlaar Okore Richardson
Ki Delph
Moses N'Zogbia Agbonlahor
Weimann
And that is without Benteke's return!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I quite like the following formation
Guzan
Lowton Okore, Vlaar, Senderos, Richardson
Cole, Ki?, Delph
Gabby, Benteke
That team hardly sets the world alight but seems more than capable of staying up.

I might well play Hutton instead of Lowton. Lowton went downhill last season and may not be as good as he was. Given that Benteke and Kozak won't be available early on, I'd go for:
Guzan
Okore Vlaar Senderos
Hutton Delph Westwood Richardson
Cole or N'zogbia
Bent Weimann
I think that would give a solid defence, but also some attacking flair.

Re. our possible decent first 11, history should teach us that Villa is generally unlucky with injuries. Given that we've now got a few older players on our books, they are generally also more likely to pick up injuries (i.e. Cole and Richardson are known for injuries).
Everton has got by by having decent managers (for that level), and comparing us to Everton shows how low things have got. They are the 2nd team in liverpool, whilst we are the 1st team in the Englands 2nd City.
Trust me, not having a buyer yet is a really bad sign (only a few weeks left of the transfer window etc). And Randy making that public statement about the club being up for sale (all other clubs that have been bought of late, have been sewn up before having to go public about the club being for sale).
I don't think Keane coming in is a great sign either, as Dwight York said Keane is not a no.2, he never has been at any club.
I want to be positive about the Villa but when you look at the situation the only thing that will save it is a mega bucks takeover (but that won't happen, as it would have happened behind closed doors last season).
