From a sober perspective

Watching yesterday's game this morning with a clear head, I found myself at odds with many fans and their perspective on yesterday. We played ok, we were quite fit or fluent but a very good run out. But there were some good positives.

Firstly Bellerin isn't ready, he has exceptional technical qualities, and is perfect when on the ball, but he needs to strengthen physically, he hardly made a tackle or block yesterday, especially from the flank, and needs to improve his arial ability to be more commanding at the back post. Fine run out, but no he is not ready. His positioning can be suspect as well, and pace alone will not get you out of that at the top level. I think that he could do with some time in the championship to learn some of the less fine arts of the game.

Martinez looked good, calm and in control, doing the simple things correct, 3rd choice keeper sorted.

Good to see sanogo get his goals, he's a very different type of player, I like his movement, needs to improve his first touch but bags of potential. Hope he can stay fit for long enough to settle his first touch a bit.

Our usual players all looked a little less than sharp, but worthy run outs.

Chambers looked good, very calm, comfortable in possession, and he covered the full back well. He'll learn a lot from mertsacker and kos over the next couple of years and could be an arsenal player for a decade - no pressure!

Campbell was interesting, good fitness, lacking a bit of sharpness in the final third, defensively he was good, and I think you could play him away from home against the big teams and he'd simply be a workhorse, nice touch, and with a bit of sharpness could be something we haven't had in a while. A player who lives for the big game, dirk kuyt for Liverpool, park for Man U, someone who will never let you down defensively and will then bust a gut to get in the box when they can.

Alexis looks good, he has that urgency on the ball that Suarez has, and I think that he will make a lot of room for Walcott and Ozil to utilise as well.

Looking forward to tonight, hope to see a bit more fluency in some of the players returning from the World Cup.

I thought that you backed off them completely in the last 20 mins and allowed them to dictate the play. Your goals masked an average performance.

So what happened during the first 70 mins (you know, the majority of the game)?

I won't get too high because Sanogo bagged 4 in a "friend" game, but I am happy for him.
Yaya is still very raw, and needs to be loan out to get more game time. If he stays, I am fine with Wenger's decision, but he won't get too much playing time. Giroud, Sanchez, Campbell and Theo can all play striker position and even if we change to a 2-striker formation the playing time is still limited. To develop him, he needs more game time.
Campbell deserves to stay, and I believe he can contribute (more than Yaya).
Chambers was also impressive. Good addition and great for our future.
We need at least one more CB, a very good DM/CM, then we can be a real challenger, IMO.

Sanogo's development has been great. He showed all the off the all movement, pace, power, physical holdup play and sniffing a chance in the box we been lacking since RVP left. It may just be a friendly but we weren't playing Celtic or Barnet.

We have 1 more place in the squad for a foreign over 21 player. We're largely linked with a defensive midfielder, which makes sense to everyone here, then replacing vermaelen if he leaves
