2014 is THE significant year for the club. Now free from major debt and newly gained financial muscle the club is back on Europe's elite map.
Arsenal's new found belief and ambition is something that even former gooners wanted a piece of, yes Van Persie spoke to Arsene Wenger about a possible return before he knew of Moyes' fate. The Mata buy was actually in preparation of building without Robin shortly before Rooney secured a lucrative contract.
Further talks were to be held in the summer however Moyes was sacked, Van Gaal was linked and RVP nor Wenger were bothered to follow through on the hassle
More recently Cesc Fabregas admitted to initially targeting an Emirates return but we weren't so keen, for various reasons.
Certainly worked out better if you ask me. Those are 2 players that didn't want to see this difficult process through and have no right to jump on our journey back towards the top.
The saying 'this is our year' has never felt so validated as it currently is at the moment. This was always going to be one of our biggest summers in our history as we worked towards the sponsorship of a lifetime, in which we secured. Fair play Ivan Gazidis .
This arising opportunity made for so much promise but everything needed to go in accordance with the script and thankfully it did.
Back in the early 2000's when we planned the stadium move we believed in this long term goal whilst Wenger was convinced we could still maintain our status near the top of the league with rivals United, this was the plan but the emergence of sugar daddies (Chelsea and City) scuppered a great deal and forced the club downwards regarding league positions......
We also had to heavily invest our time in youth in order to develop and make profit this was always going to set us back behind our rivals especially as we were giving them our most valuable goods.
All these scenarios wound up the faithful after a while and of course it's to be expected, we didn't like the period we were going through which is marked with a severity of negativity (selling players to domestic rivals, bottling trophies very late on, taking a spanking from our main competitors, failing to address certain issues annually). Of course big mistakes were made, Wenger will and has admitted to that.
Last season was certainly the most tense it had a real 'last chance' feel to it. Wenger planned for that to be the final season in which we had to get by (secure top 4) but thrashings from L'pool, Chelsea and City as well as throwing away our advantage at the top of table in typical Arsenal fashion caused upset amongst our fans and most were/are truly ready to see Wenger go.
To be honest the unrest from the supporters and horrific opening game to the season (Villa home) forced the hands of the club to act a year before they had planned to in securing top talent Mesut Ozil. One of the reasons we didn't buy in january was because we weren't actually financially where we wanted to be by then although we had a strong enough balance. It was always THIS summer where we'd be able to mix it with the big boys.
Wenger always predicted FFP going in our favour and so far it has this was also an important factor in our journey
After gaining momentum in the FA cup last year it was acknowledged that this competition would become vital for the club, one we haven't quite taken seriously in recent years but the 'trophy drought' pressurised us into taking a different stance. Once we beat Everton we knew there was no turning back and what a ride both games at Wembley were.
It's crazy to think how things could've turned out had the right boot of Aaron Ramsey not come to our rescue so late on, would Wenger have been forced out? Would this be known as the long-term plan that came so close yet so far?
I tell you what the likes of Sanchez certainly would not be at the club without Wenger's presence.
Winning the cup was important for Wenger just as much as the supporters. It's brought a spark back into a more happy person who could be pictured chilling on beaches with hot Brazillian girls. I do remember how he went on to claim 'we want to win everything now' after being victorious at Wembley.
Here we are now in 2014, with no trophyless burden on us, truly top bracket world class players (Ozil and Sanchez) are joining us in their primes (or even just before it), we also have a perfect balance of youthful talent (U23's) and top class experience.
We've gone about our business rather swiftly, getting in that fitness coach early on as well as replacing/upgrading on players adequately. Of course more business is to be expected I believe 2 more will be brought in but we're waiting on pure quality as opposed to being rash.
To conclude....
The Greatest Team The World Has Ever Seen!

Sanchez is not a striker and did not cut the mustard at Barcelona. Giroud, Campbell and So no go would not get into the starting eleven of any top teams. The world cup winners you have in your squad were not integral to Germany's success this year.

Thinking of a witty innovative interesting unorthodox username to create an online identity which represents your persona and the football team you follow is quite fun. WooooooHooooo
You're not really making any credible points here.
Have you actually ever seen Sanchez play? Did you happen to notice where he played for during the World Cup??
He will play (as he did second half today) up front down the middle - his preferred role.
TH14 - winger - flopped in Italy - did quite well for us, as did Bergkamp who struggled at Inter. Point is that prior club history is inconsequential and nothing to do with what they can contribute to AFC.

Whilst I am a great believer in positivity, this article is OTT.

Positivity is something you probably haven't had the chance to identify with for a long time so I'd take your thoughts with a pinch of salt

Are you seriously trying to compare trophies?

I think it's fair to say that Oxlade-Chambers article may have been a little OTT but then again trying to compare each clubs fortunes over the last decade is....well incomparable!
United to an extent under the Glazer ownership have been financially restricted but not to the extent of Arsenal.
United will always be competitive and it is inconceivable that LVG will not bring success back to OT.
Not sure if it will be next season but United are certainly not a club in decline (IMO).

United have already hit rock bottom
the decline is over
