1. Van Gaal has got Utd pressing when they don't have the ball. This is not a clever, new fangled tactic, it just makes them look better or at least more eager than the listless crap they offered up last season. This does not mean that they are 'back' or indeed offering anything more than they did under that hopeless Glaswegian idiot, Moyes. This does not make Van Gaal a tactical genius. They showed a bit more energy. That's literally it. Well done lads. They still have Ashley Young in the team and Jones and Smalling at the back.
2. Van Gaal has been hailed like some kind of footballing messiah because he's a bit arrogant and 'doesn't suffer fools', which is shorthand for the fact that he's a grumpy dickhe@d. This is apparently a good thing in a manager. All this talk about 'confidence and belief' is what every player says when they've got a new manager, because no-one wants to get sold to Spurs. The dressing room will cut his throat in about 3 months time.
3. You'll see how good a manager he is when he gets called out for spending £150m on four new players and they've just lost a couple of games in the easiest starting fixtures of any PL ever.
3. Van Gaal has copied Kim Jong Il's haircut. His face looks like a thumb with eyes. Or an earthworm in a suit.
4. Wayne Rooney looks like he's cut out the kebabs and might do more next season than jog around shouting at people. Which is fair enough on £300k a week. Thanks David Moyes!
5. Phil Jones' face is still jokes.
6. I'm made up for the Mancs that they won something and that they had a nice pre season. I'm looking forward to next season and watching it all go down the toilet again.
See you in December.
Things we learnt last night about the Mancs

I think that's proof enough that he can't.

No, I'm not. I'm just seeing how many halfwits would contribute to a chat thread that basically involved a sub-playground level argument about whether I could count to four or not. You just won. Congratulations.
Glad to see that the level of commentary round here is as good as it's always been. It's been a while. Hope everyone's well.

It does look genuinely interesting. There are going to be six teams up there challenging and that's not including Spurs, who have a great new manager in Pochettino, but I suspect that it might be one season too early for them.
The Mancs look to have made two solid acquisitions in Shaw and Herrera, however I really feel that they need to look at the CB positions if they're not gonna ship goals like we did last season.
Arsenal look more dangerous this year and should be well up there if they don't have too many of their traditional injury issues.

The defeat by United in a somewhat meaningless pre-season tournament is not the end of the world. However, it might serve as a "wake-up" call as the real season approaches?
