Huddersfield Town v Bournemouth

Town V Bournemouth

Saturday 9th August, 3pm

John Smiths Stadium

Last season’s results: 5-1 home victory followed by a 2-1 away defeat.

So here we are at the start of a new season and as ever this allows the hopes and dreams of all football fans to surface and forget the disappointments of previous years as we greet the new season with optimism. But enough of the romanticism let’s look at the realities.

There have been quite a few changes at Town since the end of last season with the departure of Robins’ backroom staff and the appointment of Steve Thompson and the promotion of Steve Eyre. Hopefully these changes will bear fruit and the players will be stronger, fitter and more motivated.

We have also seen some players depart and new ones arrive. But judging by the various forums and Twitter there seems to be a lot of despondency and negativity around Town’s signings with many stating we have failed to sign Championship standard players! Is it the same from all clubs’ supporters or is it just us? I can never make my mind up about this. However since I started to write this thread we have signed Coady from Liverpool and this seems to have been welcomed by one and all, although many are still calling for a striker to play alongside Wells to cover whenever Vaughan is injured.

The lack of top class signings that Town fans crave is partly down to Dean Hoyle’s determination to comply with FFP regulations, although other clubs don’t seem to be of the same mind as many appear to be spending beyond their means with impunity. Hopefully that will change with future transfer embargoes and fines, as in my opinion parachute payments already make for an unfair playing field and the clubs with smaller budgets simply can’t compete.

However, back to the game. I for one am really looking forward to this as I love the start of the season and firmly believe the players should also be looking forward and (most importantly) be committed to playing for Huddersfield Town. We should also be looking to push on from the last two seasons, aim to finish higher up the table and not have to endure the nervy finish we have suffered the previous two years.

This will be Bournemouth’s second season in the Championship and I think it’s fair to say they took a lot of people by surprise last year. They played good football and finished the season in a higher position than us, 10th to our 17th. Whether they can repeat it this season remains to be seen although they do appear to have strengthened their squad with the purchase of Callum Wilson from Coventry plus the addition of Junior Stanislas and Dan Gosling.

As ever I don’t hazard a guess as to what our team will be, and there could even be further additions to the squad before Saturday, so suffice to say I hope the players selected run out with the intention of playing good, fast attacking football and really let Bournemouth know they’ve been in a game.

C’mon Town let’s start as we mean to go on……

I said after tuesday we had a big hole in our defence..and 1st half, the Dixon, Hogg, Lynch combination was woeful again. both goals came through this area..Dixon and Hogg shouting at each other..Hogg playing too central..Dixon always out of position and Lynch was totally useless I'm afraid...giving the ball away, slicing into touch, being knocked off the ball for number 2.

2nd half it was Crooks turn to be exposed, and boy was he shown up..he's not a right back...where was Tommy Smith ? pelts is not a CB.. Dixon poor...Hogg only playing sideway...Norwood invisible..Hammill falling over himself...Ward like an over-wound up plastic toy..arms and legs flapping around...Wells starved of the ball yet again...

Smithies ? oh dear....

how can we spend all summer training and coaching and come up with that ?

It is painfully obvious the 'style' that Robins insists on us playing is not working..and never will work..he's got to change the tactics..or go.

and if I hear Robins say once more 'it was disappointing'...I'll go bonkers.....

12,300 and 500 from B'muff...that's 11,800 for a season opener....I'm just glad I didn't buy a SC, because it will be a while before I spend my money down there again....

trying to look on the bright side...last year B'muff lost 5-1 here in the 4th game of the season...they rallied round and ended up 10th...didn't sack the manager...

there's hope for us...maybe in the long run this will be the kick up the jaxie we need this season.

He said that he won't play 2 up top even at home, very stubborn, no passion, nothing. Dwindling crowds, crying out for a new manager.

I'm very disappointed, that was a dissapointing display, the players are dissapointed and the manager, he's extremely dissapointed! They will learn and improve, they have to.

Waltz, I thought the same as you, it's the same waffle coming out of Robins' mouth from twelve months ago.

This is now a very testing time for Robins, he has to prove his managerial skills. Get them motivated and LEARN, not just talk! The lads have to get things in order now and WORK. If results continue in a southern manner, then Robins may hear the knock on the door from Mr Hoyle.

Have you read the bullyshit from Peltier on the HTFC website? He said, "...when you concede after 26 seconds it is hard to get going again." Is he for real? A proper captain would never say that!

I'm giving it the first ten matches to see whether I continue any interest in Town.

'Lowly' small Town Bournemouth, with less revenues than us..1st season in Championship -10th, playing the football we can only dream about, spend £3m on a striker from Coventry...

So what exactly IS wrong with things at Town ?
