Outstanding defence required for winning...

...the title.

True or false?

Exactly, hence why I said it wasn't a valid comparison when you tried to.

I kinda get the comparisons and they're both huge achievements for clubs of different statures but they require different things to pull of each situation. Possibly more mentality than anything though

I don't because plenty of teams have punched above their weight in the lower levels of the league on the back of a solid defence and little else in the way of attack whereas nobody has done that to win a title.

Weren't you top scorers in the league when you won the title under Graham?

I dunno I was only 4

Teams have won the league off the back of a great defence though. Rio and Vidic must have dragged you to a title? Jose's Chelsea? Let TUx have his moment

We were top scorers in all but one of our titles with Rio and Vida: 2009, in which we were second. Jose's Chelsea were second top in his first and top scorers in his second. So it's not like the sides didn't have good attacks either. And both sides have also failed to win the title, as have City, with the best defence in the league.

That's not to say it's not important to have a good defence, of course it is. Just to point out it doesn't have to be the best nor does it have to be outstanding, because even the best can still not be outstanding depending on the strength of the opposition.

The attack, for me, will always be more important as goals win you games.

I think RVP showed the importance of a good attack for you guys when he joined. But the same RVP in an Arsenal side could only drag us to 4th which highlighted the importance of a top defence

It does, of course. Though our defence when we won the title wasn't even that good, we conceded the same amount last season. We just kept outscoring everyone and had more goals across the team than Arsenal did when RVP was at Arsenal.

It's why people are really overstating the issues in our defence this season. It was equally shiiite when we won the title, bar the second half of the season when Vida came back and made us more solid but caused us to be more impotent in attack due to defending on the edge of our box.

Next season I reckon we'll concede less than we have in the last two seasons, despite losing Evra, Rio and Vida, because they caused us problems with the system defensively, despite being good defenders in their own right (apart from Evra).

False
Had Henderson's touch not got away from him vs City to get him sent off, Liverpool would have won the league
