Well it seems from reports that chelsea are going to sign Juan Manuel Mata for around £26 mil and I was just wondering what everyones thoughts were. I know its nearly £10 mil more than we paid for young but I do rate him very highly from what I have seen of him in the spain squad, valencia team and the spain U21's this summer.
I know Young has the advantage of being British and proven in the PL but would you have preferred us to have recruited Mata instead? He's an incredibly tricky and skilful winger and I have a feeling he will settle into chelsea's front three very well indeed...especially with his fellow Spaniard Torres playing along side him....
In my honest opinion I think chelsea have a real gem...look how David Silva is playing for city at the moment proving you can be a lightweight and still boss the premier league...
Thoughts? (Chelsea fans welcome!!)
Mata or Young???

How can you say the competition isnt important. So in the world cup when Heskey was starting for England, does that mean he's a great player because he started for England in a string of games.

David James was a regular starter therefore i believe he is better than Pepe Reina.

No he played for England how could that make Heskey a good player? If he started for Portugal though id be impressed

Mata, not even really worthy of debate this one.

FYI, pedro is most definatley a winger.

For me I'd prefer Young, cos he's English and looks deadly already for us.
Mata is class though, great player

I think you wll find that he can't hold down a regular spot due to his injury record. However a fit Walcott strolls into the England team. Where as Young has really struggled in his 8 years of proffesional football.

Utter rubbish! Walcott has 17 caps! He has been fit a lot more. Wasn't taken to the 2010 WC even though he was fit. So he's not first choice and never has been. Even considered bringing back a 35 year old Beckham because we struggled on the right for decent players!
A Johnson should now be our first choice right winger with Young on the left.
As for the original question, can we wait until the end of the season then comment?

Why is there always a need to compare players - i have to say that Young has settled in very well at United already, and that bodes well for the season.
Mata is an undoubted talent, but he could join a long list of foreign players, who do not make it in the EPL for one reason or another.
Players like Veron, Forlan, Kezman, Rossi, Shevchenko, Aquilani all had good reputations and then left with their tail between their legs.....
Don't automatically assume because a player is foreign, they are better than the English equivalent.

Comparing Walcott to Hargreaves in any way shape or form is a terrible disrespect to Hargreaves. At least he could play before he got injured. How about Walcott + 0 years = very quick headless chicken with terrible final ball.
