So we need a midfielder that much is clear. There are many targets and the prices being quoted seem over the top to me. I don't think Fergie is going to splash 35mil for a player.
Sneijder - 30-35mil
Modric - 25-35mil
De Rossi - 20-25mil
However there is one team with an abundance of good midfielders that will be available for a knock down price.
Madrid currently have: Gago, L. Diarra, M. Diarra, Alonsa, Khedira, Sahin, Atlintop, Granero, Canales, Ozil, Kaka for their 3 central positions.
1st choice next season will be Ozil, Alonso and Khedira with Kaka, Sahin and Altintop as backup. That leaves L. Diarra, M. Diarra, Gago, Granero and Canales who will be looking for a move.
I personally would take either Diarra or Gago as they are all quality players and will be cheap, within 10mil. I would buy Lass Diarra to solidify the midfield and maybe alow Anderson more freedom.

of those you have listed, at least 4 play just as often wide left or right as they do centrally, and are equally as adept there.

De rossi wont cost that much. He has a year left on his deal, wants out of the club and is having problems with the supporters.

Yes Ozil plays wide left and atlintop plays wide right but that is not their best positions.
Kaka and Canales are AM
Alonso Sahin Gago Khedira Granero and the 2 Diarras are all CM/DM and do not play in wide positions. SO my arguement still stands.
Granero plays anywhere to get game time but in no way is he a wide player.

Oh and sahin is miles better than khedira. No way on earth will that guy be playing back up to him.

Only if we cant get sneijder or Modric would i go for any of these players, Kaka would be decent i suppose but is his injury hell really over ?

We do not need more DMs! Personally, i'd take Canales, he is young and quite talented i think, would only suit a 4-3-3 though and our current formation in Rooneys position

I think we do need a good DM, something Hargreaves was bought for but could never do due to injury. Fletcher, Anderson, Gibson, Carrick none of them are DM and none of them are AM. Fletcher is box to box, Carrick is a passing playmaker (meant to be), Anderson also box to box and Gibson is unclassifiable he's so bad. So it stands, what kind of midfield do you want? I say Diarra for DM, Anderson for AM or just further up the pitch. Also Diarra and Carrick might make a good combo as Diarra can tidy up and supply Carrick.
I would love Modric or Sneijder like any United fan, this is just trying to be practical if we can't get our targets.

Didn't M Diarra leave in January?
Shame we didn't go for Sahin, looks such a great player and will undoubtedly be wasted at Real.
