Passing

Is it just me has there been a massive overreaction to yesterday's defeat? Twitter is on meltdown

Yes, we need to buy couple of top quality players, we also need to ship out few below average players ASAP but the side we fielded yesterday had enough quality players to win against Swansea.

The reason we did not win is because our passing didnt click, especially through the middle. Players are still looking for that irritatingly predictable ball out wide all the time. we seem to use same routine of making couple of passes, looking for the ball out wide, wingers/wingbacks cross or loose the ball, repeat. this seems to be our pattern of play no matter if we play 433, 442 or 3412.

We had 2CMs, AM and 2 strikers all playing through the middle but I cant recall them having a single spell of stringing 5 passes together among themselves. This is the reason we lost. Our players still hasn't develop the the awareness, movement and the confidence to play through middle. They are drilled to play to a routine for years, LVG wont be able to get them to change the way they play within few weeks.

We wont be able to play in a modern possession based style untill our players are instinctively looking to play through the middle. It will take time to develop but they will get there eventually. If LVG's Bayern tenure is anything to go by, he is the perfect man guide our players in this transformation of playing tactically outdated rigid style of play to playing a modern possession flexible style. It wont happen overnight, just sit back and enjoy the ride.

PS

45 mins of PL football without both our first choice wingbacks, is not an indication on how effective 3-4-1-2 in PL

swansea were awful and very lucky to get their second goal. we should have beat them but unfortunately it happens (happened alot last season)

dont want to be too harsh on LVG unless he fails to sign more players. the players we have in the squad are not worthy of being man utd footballers

Its more about the lack of movement and options when bwe are in possession. Yhr frustrating thing is in preseason we looked a different side we were dynamic and pressed teams no idea why we reverted back to the dross we were doing last season. Pace is a majir worry there isnt anyone apart from janusaq who can beat a man ans when our build up is so slow and predictable if you dont have players who can go past their . man we have very little threat. The other frustration that continues are our delivery from wide areas absolutely shocking and we barely stretched Swansea or really tested their keeper.

There hasn't been any kind of overreaction. Our squad is crap, on paper our team looked terrible and on grass they were even worse. Why on Earth would I enjoy this ride? It's a mess and it's a mess entirely of our own creation, as we simply haven't strengthened a very improvable squad. We've made less signings than any other PL team and given the situation we were in at the beginning of the window (and remain in), that just isn't acceptable.

This isn't a knee jerk reaction as I've spent the last few weeks peeing in the wind saying we don't have a good enough squad to trouble the top 4 and asked my fellow fans to take the blinkers off. Unsurprisingly, it's not a positive opinion so it's fallen on deaf ears

Rooney's passing and first touch were atrocious. The sooner RVP returns the better. Hopefully he will stay fit
We, as everyone can see, urgently need a CB, a proper midfielder to supplement Herrera, and find a way to get the best from RVP, Rooney and Januzaj up top. Mata is too much of a luxury player. I'd prefer Januzaj's pace trickery and directness.

I don't see Mata as a luxury player. He was poor yesterday but with the exception of Jones and Januzaj when he came on, they all were. Mata was our best player by an absolute mile in the second half of last season and I'll go out on a limb and say that he and Rooney will be our most important and best attacking players over the course of this season.

On the Januzaj note, he was the sole bright spot yesterday after he came on. He consistently tore their full back apart but had no support and had to settle for a corner every time, without fail

We need to add quality to our squad, that is obvious but even with Vidal, Hummel and De Maria we'll still struggle till our players adapt to this system. Short, high tempo passing and passing forward is an alien concept for some of our players

Really? If I'm honest there was no difference in quality between the two starting XI's. Swansea had more experience than us. Our team sheet, even at full strength, simply doesn't scare anyone. We have absolutely NO divine right to beat any top half team with the level of quality we currently have. Sorry state of affairs but the sooner utd fans get their head around this the better.
