PREVIEW
Premier League football returns to Anfield after the disappointment in May of not lifting the title after an unexpected, yet astonishing campaign.

Brendan Rodgers has reinforced his squad following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona, and a big question mark over the squad is whether the departure of the Uruguayan will derail the chances of a top four finish or even another bid for the title this season.

Three of Liverpool's summer recruits have come from St Mary's - with Adam Lallana, Rickie lambert and perhaps the most important signing of the three, defender Dejan Lovren, all joining from the South Coast.

For Southampton this summer has seen an exodus of players, with Luke Shaw and striker Osvaldo joining the list of names out the door.

Ronald Koeman takes charge of his first competitive game for Southampton after replacing Mauricio Pochettino who left for Spurs over the summer.

Liverpool have an immediate chance to pick up three points on last season, as Soton were just one of two teams to return home victorious from Anfield thanks to now-Red Dejan Lovren's second half header back in September.

I thought he sprayed the ball around well, especially in the first half. 2n we got dominated so it died down.

Just home from the game and not great but we won!

Johnson was awful as was Mignolets kicking, why on earth did he play Lucas?????

Wanyama and Schneiderlin were great and Ward Prowse is a player I like and is getting better.

Our midfield wasn't great today. Lucas and Gerrard never convince me when played together. As a partnership they can be outfought and outmanoeuvred by good players.

Lovren looked superb though, I believe he will be a very good bit of business.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers: "Our ambitions have
to be bigger than one player. Luis Suarez sent us a lovely
text this morning wishing us all the best and telling us to
start strong - it's a lovely gesture. We're bigger than any
one player, I still think we need a striker so we'll search
through until the end of the window for that.
"He sent the text to me personally. What did it say? Don't
be so nosey! I texted him back - it's a great love in I've got
with him! He's a great boy but he's gone. It was a lovely
touch. Liverpool will always be in his heart."

Good that Rodgers recognises another striker is needed. Probably even more evident after today but Sturridge still knows where the net is.
