City away next then.

Great early game to play. No doubt about it we will have to step up 100%. Not too woried as the first game can be a bit tetchty, the main problem is the midfield was 2nd best to saints, not sure why but if that happens again then city wont be as wateful as saints were.

Coutinho could be a problem too. He was denied space and pretty ineffective, he either needs to understand this will happen and be smart enough to move positions on the pitch or he could be replaced in the side.

Anyway because its city away i believe we will be 100% focused and i am hoping BR changes the midfield, i bet Moreno also plays with JOhnson either dropped or switched back to RB.

We can beat city hut we will.need to improve massively on Sundays game.

KennysH.......

I thought the same yesterday about Lucas, thought we got away with in yesterday. The whole team thought they would just turn up saints were first class and deserved something.

Which is great coz we played poor and won, same as the beginning of last seaon. Hoping off a draw against man city but ya never know!

G_B its funny that in one game Coutinho has gone from being our saviour this season to being a problem.

Coutinho won't be man marked against City like he was vs Southampton. They are a lesser team, they saw that Coutinho is a threat so to counter that man marked him out of the game. I doubt Yaya or Fernando will man mark Coutinho. He will have more space against Man City. Its what happens in these types of games. Man City will go toe to toe with us rather than just trying to stifle us.

We didn't pass the ball well and were trying to had to get it forward in one pass where two would have been better. Lucas played well first half and was awful the second but I don't think it's down to formations.

We just need to pass the ball better. I would prefer Allen in there and Newcastle showed you can get space in the middle against Toure and Fernado/Fernandinho.

Scoring first will be key.

I thought the we lacked the explosiveness that we showed last season. I was expecting us to come flying out of the block to make a statement. It never happened and I thought our midfield 3 and front 3 were very slow in closing the opposition down - which was one the key features of our game last season.

We lacked mobility in midfield, which usually happens when Gerrard and Lucas play together in a midfield 2. It all changed when Allen came on and brought some mobility and energy.

I thought we played well in the first half myself. Had really good possession without creating anything too clear cut. 2nd half they got at us and it worked.

Would have been nice to bring on Lallana for Coutinho but that will come in time.

The problem yesterday was that massive block that Southampton had in midfield with Schneiderlin and Wanayama who are two very competent players. It was ridiculously congested and we struggled to create many clear cut chances. Thankfully the ones we did we put away.

I will be amazed if Lucas starts again for a while especially away to City. Either Allen or Can will come in for him to provide a bit more fight in midfield as he looked quite lost in the second half yesterday.

I would personally play a diamond against City.

Sterling off of Sturridge up top.

Coutinho at the tip. Allen and Hendo the runners in front of Gerrard.

Southampton did a very good job on Coutinho yesterday, well done them and Koeman who clearly learnt from watching him destroy Dortmund. City won't set out to stop him playing though, they will give him space like they did in this fixture last season because they play on the front foot not to stop the opposition.

Games against City in recent times have been really good and close. I don't see this one being any different. They are not firing on all cylinders either.

It will be decided on small details. Last season at City we missed chances and paid the price. At Anfield they made a defensive error and paid the price.

I expect another 1 goal victory for either team, or a score draw.

Think Aguero will start ahead of him, but would be frightening if they started with both with Silva, Nasri and Toure feeding the 2 of them.
