What do we need more?

For the past several years we have needed new CM's more than any position in the team. Now though is that still the case?

When everyone is fit our midfield is Carrick and Herrera.
When everyone is fit our wingers are Januzaj and Young/Valencia (Or Mata/Kagawa/Rooney) where they aren't comfortable.

Arguably our biggest problem in the last two years has been a lack of pace. Buying Fabregas/Kroos et al. still wouldn't have solved this.

Obviously I'm not saying to buy a winger and leave the midfield as it is but to anyone thinking Di Maria is a luxury signing, I would argue that he would help more than buying Kroos or Fabregas would have.

I understand we aren't using wingers at the moment in the 3-4-1-2 formation but personally I don't see that as a solution long term. LVG himself said in one of his interviews that he changed formation because of a lack of great wingers.

I think we need Di Maria just as much as we need a world class CM.

Chance for United to go and be game changers here.

Benatia - £24m

Khedira - £8m

Di Maria - £40m

It would be a bit sad that we would be getting closer to an almost entire foreign XI at utd but it may be our only option right now if we want to remain competitive sadly, as people pointed out last night.

In saying that.....I'm sure Shaw & Rooney would still be first team regulars when fit and Carrick, Welbeck, Smalling, Jones etc would still get plenty of game time.

Needs must. We can't afford to slip into the wilderness ala the scousers in early 90's.

Get the bloody chequebook out and let's get busy.

Yea tell me about it.

I got shot down big time on here by a few regulars on this very issue. Clearly they don't really care about traditions of this club as much as I do. We've always been about English/British players and also giving local lads a chance too and have had our two best periods in our entire history by doing this.

But we kinda don't have a choice right now, do we? Needs must.

Exciting though.

This is why i was so happy to get Shaw.... When an English player shows real quality (and I mean world class potential)... We should be looking to snap them up, at whatever the cost.

The will be loyal, wont look for pastures new and will really appreciate the huge club they play for. The banter and atmosphere of the club will be boosted.

Sadly, there are not rich picking in English players, right now.

Get what you mean. If only we had just bought Ramsey and Bale.

I still have faith in both Smalling and Jones though. And I have big hopes for James Wilson.

Couldn't care less what others say, I still like seeing English boys do well at our club. Especially local boys.

And btw I do realise Ramsey and Bale are not English was just extending that to British players ie. JSP's point. Less likely to leave.

We'll get Bale in Real Madrid's fire sale, next year

and if Ramsey becomes the arsenal captain, that generally means he will be on the market come the summer

Sadly I think we have no chance of Bale. Get the feeling he'll be brilliant this season.
