If the EL winners finish outside the top four then the country get an extra spot - so in the case of the prem, five.

If both winners finish outside the top four then the fourth placed team doesn't qualify for the CL.

That's interesting though. So just say the winner of the CL/Europa both come from England but both finish outside the top 4, only the Champions and 2nd place qualify for the CL

It won't happen, only really Chelsea are capable of winning the Champions League and the Europa League will be won by a dropout or a Spanish side. Of course that dropout could be Liverpool of course.

But I can't see England gaining a place as any team who does win something will be solid top four for me.

Only if the winner of either European competition doesn't qualify through the league, Macca.

It's more likely to benefit Spain as they're the ones you'd fancy to have a Europa winner that doesn't finish top four - Sevilla and Atletico being two obvious examples in the last few years.

It's unlikely both the UEFA Cup winners and the CL winners would finish outside of the qualifying sports for the CL.

Of course, BB.

Since the CL has been top four the only time the winners of both competitions haven't qualified for the CL through the league was in 2012, when Atleti and Chelsea won them, and we all know Chelsea's win was the fluke of the century - and that was across two different leagues as well.

The only chance of it happening in one league is if Atleti win it and drop out of the top four with another team from Spain winning the Europa, and that looks unlikely.
