Positive reaction to Di Maria.

From looking at recent articles and comments, it seems that for once, most of the board is in agreement that Di Maria is a welcome addition?

Think we may have slightly overpayed but in our current situation, we were bound to be quoted top whack for players. Despite paying a reputed £63.9 million, we are getting a quality wideman who will add a different dimension to our play, giving us a more balanced attack and a hopeful switch back to 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.

I would like to ask, is there a United fan on this board who is against the signing of Di Maria and why?

There is also rumours in the media that there will be two other signings following Di Maria to Old Trafford, who do you think they will be? Or will Di Maria be the last signing?

I'm sure everyone is hoping for a central midfielder and a centre back. I'd be happy with a real tough combative midfielder and feel that would top off a good summer window (providing we can shift those who are deemed surplus too).

Marlo - I'm not sure how anyone could think the squad we had were best suited to 352 at the time he came in. We had / have no specialist WBs, too few CBs, poor CMs for a two man CM and too many wingers.

Earl, maybe he thinks he can play a bit deeper, otherwise you're right, he is way way down the pecking order now.

I see Anderson, Fellaini, either Hernandez or Welbeck leaving and you could also make a case for Clevs and Kagawa. All depends on who we can realistically get before deadline day.

How come we haven't tried to cash in on kagawa?

Its one thing trying to offload the likes of Anderson and nani but kagawa surely would still have no problems finding a new club, its not as if he has a future here.

We really ruined Kagawa imo. Has the guy ever started 3 games in a row in his preferred position. He was so good at Dortmund.

Reddevils double...

Aside from the obvious plus point of being able to field the holy trinity of Mata, Rooney and Van Persie in their favoured positions all at the same time, I feel the 3-5-2 is otherwise a detriment to team chemistry.

Its easy to attack us down the flanks, where as you say, we have no specialist wing backs, we don't have a strong and energetic midfield to carry it off and that team lacks a lot of pace in the positions where we can hurt the opposition.

I also felt 3-5-2 pushed Januzaj out the side, and I was eager to see how his development progressed under the tutelage of LvG. Hopefully if we do revert to 4-3-3, we will see plenty of Adnan.

So what was the point in going 352 if it didn't suit the squad he had and didn't intend to stick with it??

You'll have to ask that to Van Gaal mate, I have no idea.

I'm delighted, yes. But for me it's similar to the Veron, Mata, RVP transfers - great, we've signed a world class player. Now what do we do with it?

If it goes through we'll have 4 attacking players who are world class on their day, and as far as I'm concerned we can't fit them all into the same team. If we try to it'll back-fire.

Thankfully though, Van Gaal isnt the type to try and fit them all in for the sake of it.

Dtkf doesn't agree. He has no doubt you'll play all 4.

Januzaj Mata/Rooney Di Maria
RvP/Rooney

That would be my front four.

Marlo - I asked again as when I initially asked you attempted to explain however your response didn't make sense.

As I said. Puzzled we spend weeks on 352 only to go 433 after 2 matches. UNLESS di Maria is a panic buy OR LVG intends to use him at WB.

I explained why I thought we shouldn't play 3-5-2 despite it allowing us to play Mata, RvP and Rooney in their favoured positions at the same time, I do apologise if you didn't understand my response

I think LvG thought he would give the formation a try and felt he had nothing to lose by doing so. He said that if we didn't adapt successfully he would go back to 4-3-3 because it is a formation we are well versed in. We have played this way a hell of a lot in the past.

I really really do hope though more than anything, we go 4-3-3 and we see Di Maria and Januzaj regularly on the flanks because they give us that pace and unpredictability that we have been missing so badly recently.
