No Big Deal

So we lost at home to the champions and arguably the strongest side in the league. No need to worry or overreact. There were some positives to take from the game. Moreno looks promising. Mistakes aside, I think he’ll learn and become a decent player for us. Markovic looked impressive when he came on and lambert showed that we have a plan B if we need it.

Our defending and some poor individual performances aside, we showed that we will be comfortable in the majority of our games this season. Add Balotelli and Lallana into the mix and I think we have a formidable team. Given our tough run of fixtures, it was going to be extremely hard for Rodgers to blood our new signings in early.

The next game against Spurs we be a real measuring stick, in terms of how our season will shape up.

Thoughts?

If you want to become champions and improve on last year you had to beat them. At this point, you havent improved from last year, you didnt deliver a first blow, you did look like you missed Suarez. It is a big deal, you should have won the game to show your ambition and improvement. But you didnt. Lost opportunity. Champions win big games.

I'd like to point out that we are 3 points better off than we were in the two corresponding fixtures last season.

actually we have improved from last year.
last year we lost to city 2-1 away and we lost to southampton at home 2-0.

thereby giving us 0 points and a goal difference of -3.
this year we have 3 points and a goal difference of -1.

if we replicate every game for the remainder of the season as last season, we finish +3 points... surely thats better isnt it?

Would you say they lack Dutchness?

I guess its better to make up excuses then?

I think it was important for L'pool to beat City yesterday.

Agreed. This game will show if Liverpool are at a similar level to last season and if Spurs have improved enough to challenge for top 4. Judging from the first two games, I think Spurs will definately be up there.

I just think you're overstating the importance of the fixture.

City are champions and don't really have that much bedding in to do. You would expect them too to be better in their second season under Pel.

Liverpool meantime have a number of new signings that need to find their feet in the team and didn't even field the guy who's expected to make up for most of the goals lost with Suárez's departure.

I didn't watch the game myself, so those who did can correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I gather it was more a question of City being more clinical. Possession and shots-wise it was pretty much all square, and it appears that the home side made the most of the mistakes made by the new signings.

noones making any excuses up... we lost to a better team, that happens to be the hardest fixture in the league... the champions away. A point would have been a good result, a win a great one. The "important" result for us was to beat southampton at home last weekend, which was a result we didnt have last season, and we got it.
