I guess we have all been mightily impressed with the start young Eric has made. Watching him on Sunday he hardly put a foot wrong, in particular he makes a good tackle back when his opponent tries to get past him (and Yes I know QPR were cack). He looks a very solid RB who can press forward amd knows where the goal is. He can also play CB - what's not to like?
Other top players we have had at The Lane who come to mind with the versatility to play well in a number of positions (here's where I show my age):
Dave Mackay - Midfield or Sweeper;
Graham Roberts - Ditto;
Steve Perryman - RB or Defensive Mid;
Gary Mabbutt - Anywhere along the back 4;
Bale - Wing/AM or LB;
Ledley - CB or Defensive Mid.
Who have I missed?
Versatile Dier

Gary Doherty CB and CF

To be fair doherty was a good player before he broke his leg. He was a much better forward than defender though.

Very excited with the young lad Dier. What impresses me most is that he just dosent seem fazed with anything. He seems very mature and clearly has a brilliant future in the game.
I was also suprised how quick he is when playing RB, he really does get up and down the flank well.
I still feel when Walker and Fazio return he may have to bide his time but will still play lots of games over the course of the season.
He is after all only a kid in a new league so Poch will have to take him out of the limelight from time to time.
He is certainly a top player in the making.

Also versatility is an unknown quantity really as the likes of fifa or football manager dont show it.
Who knew walker can play anywhere across the backline? Who knew that he has won man of the match twice at left back? Who knew his debut for us was as a substitute at centre back?

If he's good enough he should play. None of the true superstars need shielding from the limelight, they just need reminding not to get carried away with the publicity.

Robbo played centre forward one game when we had an injury crisis.
It was at WHL about the 7th game of the season and it was against Southampton who were actually top of the league at the time.
We won 3-0 and he scored a hat trick
He also went in goal at Craven Cottage in an FA Cup game. We drew that 0-0 and won the replay.
Now thats what you call vesatile particularly from a centre defender
