How do we sort out the mess at the back? We have same defensive unit (I'm including Barry and mccarthy in this) as last year but can't defend - individual mistakes, seemingly no plan regarding offside trap, no cohesive team pressing. Is it Martinez? or the players? or both? I think we need a New CB brought in 23-27 to help stones, browning and Galloway through as jags and distin age. Virgil Van dijk from celtic I think is an excellent player and would do well.

Starting Stones, might be a good start.
Highline doesn't work without inherent pressing, didn't see that from your lot.
Space left for Fabregas to set up Costa in the early proceedings, was criminal.
Added to the fact that Jagielka and Distin are thoroughly timorous and hesitant when pressed.

Lukaku doesn't know how to press from the front appropriately(genuine inability to his game) but fortunately, you have Eto'o who is excellent at it(one of the best in the game, at suppressing and closing off space/areas).

I said before the game that we should've played a 3 man midfield with besic man marking fabergas, we didn't gave cesc too much space and paid the price
