Welcome Chris Powell, I though you were a stand out candidate, both through your experiences with Charlton over the years, and your youth philosophy. I think you will do well,. You have a decent youngish side both eager to learn and go forward. Good choice... and good luck. Oh.. thanks Mark.

Yeah ok...Powell looks a good appointment, but hang on a minute..
Let's wait and see how we get on with him before we bestow a load of praise on the guy. Not being negative, but we've been here before, a few times, so for me..I'm going to reserve 'judgement' until the guy has delivered.
I want to see attacking action filled committed football..I want to see the players really putting in shift, like they have finally done under Lillis, and I want to see us winning a few games, conceding less goals and climbing the league table.
I don't want us to be languishing in the lower reaches of the table all season, avoiding the drop by 2 points or so is not a success..I expect Town to be pushing for the play offs this season..nothing less.
Also, I want us to still recruit to strengthen the areas we are still weak in...like up front for instance.
I expect we'll spend the next 6 or 7 games with a myriad of team selections and formations as he learns about the squads abilities ..but we can't afford to be letting the points differential between us and the rest get too great...Powell will have to 'hit the ground running' and start picking up some wins, especially at home where it's been 9 games since we saw a win , and to keep some clean sheets (17 games since we did that).
I wish him good luck, but praise will follow when we get positive results

Have you read the piece in the Examiner about the rolling contract and the Moment Robins left?

Great appointment for Town, he seemed a decent man and good track record but the more I hear from him the more I can see what convinced Dean. One thing thats impressed me was him turning down a freebie to the World Cup and instead went and got his UEFA Pro license as did his assistant Alex Dyer. That says a lot to me about his focus and determination as most took the jolly!!!
I am really looking forward to what will be my first game of the season, got to sort it out on my Take 10 card and I will be there giving him a good welcome.
It would be a nice touch if Mark Lillis is mentioned and given a standing ovation for his contribution this last month, he has been outstanding.
One thing I did think was as we now have 2 Assistant Managers it must have been a bit awkward for Steve Thompson, Im guessing the link to the Carlisle job will come off sooner rather than later.

He will be good, bad or average. My money's on the latter as he already did the first 2 at Charlton.

powell is not everyones first choice????
well strike me down, is that so?
we appear to have a great number of fans who didn't think anyone was good enough to manage town..
some of the names mentioned were clearly from deranged individuals living in cloud cuckoo land.
given our present financial circumstances and the 'one year rolling contract' it was pretty clear we would have whittled down the original rush of applications fairly sharply.
from the few that remained powell was evidently in Deans mind the best suited.
to those that wanted Lennon and other 'successful' managers please remember where he and others have managed and come back to the real world asap, its dark and cold and a bit scary, but at least its 'real'..
to those that want to moan, boo and generally get cheesed off with the team from the kick off against boro, id say, do something else with your Saturday and your money, its not compulsory.. please just give the new bloke a bit of a go..ta..
