CAVIAR SHOULD BE EATEN SLOWLY

There was a time at Highbury when these two kids nearby my seat booed a young Thierry Henry as he ran down the wing into another dead end.

Then there were the upstarts who were convinced that Aaron Ramsey would never get over his broken leg and should be abandoned.

But the most telling time for me was when Denis Bergkamp first came to town.
Denis oozed class. Found space out of nowhere - it was as if the opposition backed off in fear.
The thing was, all he wanted to do was put the ball on a sixpence for Ian Wright but Wrighty could not see the pass.
Bergkamp could have his back to goal on the halfway line and Wrighty did not realise he knew exactly where he was and wanted him to make a run.

The exact same thing is happening again with Mesut Ozil - he is different mustard to his team mates.
He appears to be strolling but in fact he is waiting for movement.
He will be understood and then grown men will cry.

P.S This will happen when Walcott comes in on the right and Ozil is freed up. Patience my friends - patience!

I hope you are right OP, initially I felt Giroud being in the team was breaking Ozil but that excuse won't fly anymore now. With Sanchez, Welbeck and Walcott up front there really is not excuse anymore. He needs to start justifying his price tag.

weird that ozil played his best at the start of last year when giroud was playing his best too

So what you're saying is the rest of team isn't good enough for Ozil which is making him look bad. I thought "world class" players were supposed to improve teams, make them look better, not be brought down a level by the lesser players.

Or perhaps the Real Madrid made him look better than he actually is?

For the record, I have no problem with Ozil. Like him and am sure he'll come good. Got a big problem with people blaming Giroud for stuff that's nowt to do with him though.

And OP Bergkamp wasn't poor at first because Wrighty wasn't making the run. He was poor because the entire league were kicking the cr.ap out of him on the pitch. It was when he starting giving as good as he got in that respect, that his game came to life.

Great article. The lack of movement by our players is quite shocking when we have the ball. They just stand like statues convinced that they will get space from nowhere!

I'm getting slightly annoyed by people defending Ozil by saying the rest of the team is not good enough.

Ozil himself hasn't been good enough. It's lame and pathetic placing the blame on others. He needs to step up his game

Having said that, playing him on the wing isn't helping either.

Good article

No-one's blaming the rest of the team, but if a player isn't playing in a system or a position that suits them, it's always going to negatively impact their performance.

Even some of our greatest players of all-time - Henry, Bergkamp, and Vieira to name just a few - struggled massively at other clubs in set-ups that didn't suit them.

Ozil came to us as one of the most creative players in Europe and was considered the master of the through-ball - if we don't have anyone with pace making runs into space, I fail to see how he can perform to the level he was previously.

I'm hopeful that the signing of Welbeck will help a great deal.
