THE ART OF BENCHWARMING

"Where's the defensive midfielder and where's the centre back we so badly need?"

It's a debate that is the talk of restaurants, bars and clubs from Ibiza to Los Angeles to Upper Street.

The reality is that Wenger has a mental block when it comes to benchwarmers.
We need a centre back who can also play as a full back who is as good as Per/Laurent. Wenger will argue that there is no one who is that good who will happily sit on the bench - and we have Chambers.

He will further argue that he may as well give Flamini, Arteta and Diaby their P45's if he brings in a defensive midfielder.

Finding a benchwarmer of the highest quality to paint his nails and then come on and deliver a great performance is difficult and expensive.

Notable ones from the past/present : Solskjaer through to Wellbeck at United, Robben through to Cech at Chelsea, Balotelli through to Sagna at City.

Robben was only ever a bench warmer at chelsea when he was injured. The guy started most games for us.

I seem to remember him huddled up next to Gudjohnsen and Duff and wondering what has the world come to!

Ospina, Wilshere, Podolski, Monreal, Cazorla are top internationals are not guaranteed places, we had TV benchwarming last season as well so I don't think this is the problem.

But that is exactly the problem.

TV couldn't stand it and wanted to go and watch telly at United.

People on this forum like to shout and scream 'I want' but never actually give names.

Man united desperately need a centre back spent 160 million pounds and still couldnt sort out the problem. Its more than just stamping your feet saying you want a dm/cb
