No more 'ship-to-shore' radio...?

A very interesting turn of events indeed: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/29161931

Drivers can no longer receive performance related advice over the radio. From my perspective it has irked me somewhat with regards to the amount of information that passes from the pits to the driver. I mean in MotoGP (for example) all the rider gets is a once-a-lap update via his pitboard so why should an F1 driver need so much more? (On the pitboard subject, I've never understood the need for them in F1 seeing as the drivers and their respective engineers are always in communication). So on the one hand I can understand where the FIA is coming from. However, I think that like many changes that are introduced into F1, it appears (stress on this word) poorly done again as it's just so ambiguous. Are they going to have a panel of people listening to all radio communications and then these same guys will have a discussion as to what is performance related and what isn't?

Rather than a negative ruling, why not make it a positive ruling instead along the lines of saying what an engineer CAN say to a driver? For example information regarding brake temperatures so that the driver can alter the brake bias. There are many others I could think of but I can't be bothered to write them down. The only realistic outcome I can see of this ruling is that the steering wheels will end up having lots more dials and screens telling the driver the information that would normally come from his engineer.

Yes, I'm all for getting rid of stuff like: "Try exiting corner X in gear Y to help the tyres"; "You're riding the accelerator and brake through corner Z", and so on. However, strategy does play an important part in F1, it always has, so if this aspect is seemingly removed, or at least drastically reduced, everyone's strategy will end up being exactly the same.

I think that they should have just made a list of X-number of things that the teams can tell the drivers, not cut the cord completely. Typical F1; to quote Jeremy Clarkson: "Ambitious but rubbish!"
