PREVIEW

It's been almost a month since Anfield hosted a competitive match, but now there will be two in the space of three days as the Champions League makes it's long awaited return to the home of five time winners Liverpool.

Before that, the Reds take on an Aston Villa side who are unbeaten in the Premier League thus far, and sit one point and two places above Brendan Rodgers's side.

Villa are unbeaten in their last three trips to Anfield, with two draws either side of a 3-1 victory in December 2012.

They have only lost once in their last five visits to Liverpool, and manager Paul Lambert boasts a proud record of being unbeaten when in the away dugout - a win and daw with Villa plus a 1-1 draw when in charge of Norwich.

Liverpool are without Daniel Sturridge so Mario Balotelli is set for his full home debut, and new signing Adam Lallana could also make his first appearance in a red shirt.

I can't think of any positives to come out of the game really, just a very bad day at the office that needs to be forgotten before the CL game.

The stats show that teams lose as many before as theydo after. Years and years of stats for team after team but you no better hahahaha

we struggled (enormously) with Villa last season as well

because we had one one on CL football in a years time
