why is he never mentioned among the managers under the most immediate pressure? because it strikes me that given the start QPR have made to this season (lost 4 games out of 5, scoring once and conceding 10) there's been a distinct lack of criticism
was watching MOTD2 last night, could not believe just how suicidally QPR were playing. even Jenas was commenting on this, criticising Redknapp's tactics!
it's not even like it's limited to just this season, i accept the situation he took over wasn't exactly ideal but how much has he actually improved QPR from where they were under Mark Hughes? consider he's had nearly 2 years and a fair bit of money to spend. he still took them down albeit in 19th rather than 20th, just about scraped promotion from the Championship with the richest club in the division. how much of an achievement is that actually? reminds me a bit of Allardyce just about getting West Ham up through the playoffs. and this season, well if things don't change pretty quickly it'll be another relegation
moving back to this season i accept he's not exactly working with the best squad in the division and that they were always going to be fighting at the other end of the table, but i'd still argue they're under-performing considering the personnel they have. there's enough experience and quality there to create what should be the foundations of a decent team-Ferdinand, Kranjcar, Sandro, Caulker's a decent(ish) player too. okay, you might say he's working with a bunch of over the hill veterans there but then who brought these players in!
i've included Spurs in this article btw because i'd like to get a bit more perspective on Redknapp. maybe i am being harsh in my evaluation but it strikes me he's been getting away with doing a pretty poor job at QPR. be happy to hear anyone challenge this though
okay, thanks for reading. your thoughts please!
Harry Redknapp

I only said he was a top manager for us – I think his record at QPR speaks for itself. Two Top 4 Premiership finishes in a 3 year period is not to be sniffed at – especially for a club who had never finished there before – and haven’t done since.
Don’t click,
You might be right – my memory doesn’t serve me that well I’m afraid – I was just saying that Harry got the best out of him – which I imagine is pretty much a common fact.
Luka,
Maybe “flop” is the wrong word, but there were suggestions flying around that he was too lightweight etc etc. But we found out under Harry that his body frame wasn’t a problem and he showed he could hold his own in the Premiership from that moment on.
I’m not claiming another manager couldn’t have done the same, but my original point was just that he got Modric playing to the best of his ability – which is something we should all be pleased with – and not find excuses not to give praise (which is what seems to be happening here).
I have never claimed Harry is perfect, but I’m just grateful to him for giving us that taste of Champions League football, giving us the belief that we can actually finish in the Top 4, and for the entertaining football (sometimes not good for the heart) he gave us. I don’t see what is so wrong about that. It’s not like I am calling for him to be re-appointed.

True. Top managers win things though.

Not necessarily - and I thought we’d covered this type of comment the other day, but with players instead of managers. This is where you claimed redrob was wumming when he suggested O’Shea has won more than our entire squad – but it was in fact a true statement.
Wenger recently went 8 years without winning a trophy but I don’t think even the most bias fan would say he is not a top manager.
Like players, a manager can achieve things in different ways, whether it be managing a club on a shoestring at the top level (like Moyes at Everton), or having a general ability to improve clubs (like Pulis at Stoke or Palace).
Of course we all want silverware in the trophy cabinets but success or ability is not simply based on just that.
Harry did a top job during his reign at Spurs and I applaud him for that. Cheers Harry . But we also have to move on.

We covered nothing, I certainly don't see how a discussion about Fazio is relevant to Harry.
Most g00ns seem to think Wenger has lost it.
Harry did well with us but as you say his record after (before wasn't too great either) points to the squad carrying him more than his ability to manage at the top level. Much like AVB and his time at Porto.. except he actually won stuff.

My response wasn't necessarily about Harry or Fazio, my point is that players and managers are not just judged on winning things. If this were the case, Shearer would be well down the pecking order of Premiership greats, hence the compaison between Fazio and O'Shea when it was suggested a player who has won things must be better than all who haven't. This is not the case.

Agreed, and I wouldn't attempt to judge either a player or manager by silverware alone.. as I've already said.
IMO Harry should have won something with that squad, you seem convinced he did a top job regardless.
Agree to disagree?

big game for the gobby one tomorrow. if QPR lose then surely questions need to be asked about his future at the club.

If anything, some might say we were punching above our weight by finishing 4th and reaching the CL quarter final at our first attempt.
Happy to agree to disagree though....

I think we should be worrying about our own team right now. If we were going to replace Sherwood then Pochettino was my No.1 preference from the names that were being bandied about, but we don’t seem to be playing anything like his old Southampton team. Still early days and I’m not jumping on any bandwagons but I’m quite disappointed in our play at this moment in time.

chicken. so am I, but what has Poch got to do with what Redknapp is doing at QPR?
Anyway as I have said elsewhere, I want Poch given 3 years minimum, no questions asked. unless something stupid happens like we are in a relegation fight, which we clearly wont be
