Partizan are no mugs...we knew that before the game started.
Stambouli and Fazio are welcome additions to the squad. Apart from one mis-timed jump by Fazio I felt a bit safer knowing we had Mountain Fazio in the box. He's not that slow either.
Stambouli does his role well full of energy.
Bentaleb will progress well playing in Europe.
Davies is not that much better than Rose.
Vertonghen looks class when he wants to. Maybe he prefers playing alongside Fazio?
However, its painfully clear....
Lennon cannot play the role of an inverted winger. I don't necessarily agree with resting players but Poch may need to adapt his formation for Europe if he wants to rest Lamela, Eriksen and Chadli and be effective.
Townsend is not good enough to start league matches. Right now he's fighting it out with Chadli and Lennon for a starting role. As it is now. Chadli has no real competition.
Paulinho ? not sure his strengths. Brazilian Lampard should at least be a goal threat. didn't see him cause that much mayhem in the opposition third.
Formation for Europe?
................Soldado
...........Kane/Paulinho
Townsend Stambouli Bentaleb Lennon
Davies Fazio Vertonghen Naughton
................Vorm
So what did we learn?

I don't think there is any question of whether it was designed to insult or not.

Agreed its very insulting. But legally its going to be hard to prove that it's anti-semitic. Especially as some fans enjoy the Yxd chant.

To be honest, no-one came out of that game with any credit. Fazio looked okay but at one point he thought he was 7ft 6, instead of 6ft 6, when he misjudged that throw-in. Had that been a certain ex-cB, he would have been shot down massively today - regardless of the amount of clearances he may have made.
Its early days for Strambouli but he does give the ball away quite needlessly at times. And i agree with the comment that, if we are going to play Lennon and Townsend, we have to play to their strengths a little bit - and not just stick to Plan A all game.
I thought Davies did okay at LB though.
0-0 isnt that bad a result in the cold light of day.

It just seems to me that the obvious tactic of any team playing against Spurs is to regularly hoof the ball across to the often deserted right side where most teams play what they call a left back...

I don't mind the result. But to have no shots on target?!!!
Did we not hit the bar?? That is on target as far as I am concerned!

Greaves,
I always say the woodwork should count as “on target”. Otherwise, if the ball goes in off the post or bar, a goal has been scored by being off target – which doesn’t make any sense.

redrob,
I suppose you can look at it both ways. Can you shoot on target with no keeper and miss (ie. hit the woodwork and out) and can you shoot off target and it be a goal (woodwork and in)? But for me, the target is the frame of the goal.
