Mignolet told to shape up......

Pretty much agreed with your views on this for a while KLS.

Its all well & good people bringing up his shot-stopping ability, a prerequisite for any top level keeper anyway I'd have thought, but what good is it pulling off a cracking save, if you then go rushing off your line & find yourself presenting a goal-scoring opportunity not long later?

He does have some ability obviously but I'm not sure he's got the mindset to do it at a club like Liverpool amongst a few things.

He's reminding me more & more of David James under Evans. We all knew calamity could pull off the odd head-scratching save but then he'd come out for a corner & the chaos would start. Our box is a panic station every-time a good cross is whipped in.

Pressure's on him to step it up.

He makes big saves at crucial moments. That alone is worth it's weight in gold. However that moment against Ludgorets was the first time I have ever seen him be totally culpable when the chips were down. Awful error. Rescued by (a critised) Manquillo who was out of position to win the penalty. And of course Gerrard who gets critised when he's been superb again this season.

Mig still has improvement in him but it's laughable we still have Brad Jones as the back up keeper.

Who critised manquillo he had a very good game..

Mig is ok, as many have pointed out he has the ability to pull out top saves but there are definite flaws.

I doubt any other top 4 side in a decent standard league is looking at us enviously where Mig's concerned.

If the Valdes rumours are true I can't imagine he's looking at Mignolet and seeing himself on the bench. He has a wealth of experience and could potentially use that to calm our back 4 down a bit. There are times when they just seem panicked at having to defend!

other than Chelsea I don't look at other prem sides and think we'd actually have more points with their keeper.

But I'd also say the standard of keeping is lower than it was 5 years ago.

Some goal keepers just don't cope with the pressure of playing for a big club.

Mig looks like he could fall into this category if he doesn't cut out sloppy mistakes. He is a. great shot stopper, but doesn't command his area well enough and occasionally has rushes of blood to the head.

His distribution isn't great and can be dodgy with the ball at his feet when the opposition press from the front, but so far this season I haven't been too concerned with this aspect of his game as I was last season. He gives it a bit of welly more often now, which although far from ideal, is preferably to the phannying around at the back which was evident at the start of last season (and in BR's first).

At set pieces he hardly exudes calm. Hopefully this spread to the defenders and cost us today against West Ham, because they will be dangerous from set pieces.

Needs to step up today,and shake off the jitters.

He's obviously not listened to him one iota, as he's been a shi te today as he's been all season.
