I keep hearing Spurs fans praise the club for finally rebuilding the defense.
If this is so, why are we now watching, man for man - one of the dodgiest back fours in Tottenham history. Rose and Chiriches, I mean seriously?
The notion that Kaboul or Chiriches are either individually better than Michael Dawson is laughable. Chiriches is making 32 year old Jolean Lescott look like Paolo Maldini. So why we did buy new defenders that the manager clearly thinks aren't a significant upgrade on what we have?
This is just my views on the lineup, I am not scapegoating the defense for the poor first half performance, the midfield has also been inept so far. I think we will win but I wonder why we signed the likes of Davies in the first place if the manager rates the likes of Rose so highly.
Kaboul, Chiriches & Rose: the worst ever?

Rose going forward has been decent tbh and other than the foul on the corner flag I cannot see any other poor play.

Shockingly poor. I assumed they would get better second half and was wrong.

To be fair, dragging half the team across Europe on Thursday will not have helped, its the old EL curse again

Chiriches isn't a bad defender at all, and he's certainly a class footballer! He's proved that last season as MOTM vs United, amazing goal vs Fulham, superb defending against Everton, great international & EL games, etc, and it was his debut season.. he just needs confidence/trust from the manager and a proper CB to help guide him. Maybe do some training to improve concentration and picking out the safest option rather than playing with risks. I think he'd do well as a DM as well, considering his superb long ball passes and dribbling ability. His biggest weaknesses though are in the air and his physical side. But he certainly is very talented and normally a smart football, don't know what's gotten into him recently. But with more games under his belt and the aforementioned actions taken.. he should do much better again and hopefully reach his potential. Though I do think he is better suited to Spanish or Italian football, even if he's shown some great signs against big English teams. Gardos looks strong and more able to cope with the English game at Saints.
