Only British players in the League Cup?

So this comment was posted on the live page tonight:

"Posted at St. Tomid: Make the League Cup special: Only allow British players. Which professional club has the best of British? Could Man City enter?"

And I started thinking this might not be such a bad idea. Right now most of the big teams rest their star players anyways, but forcing them to play only British players would definitely make the competition a little more exciting. Plus generally the lower down in the leagues you go, the more homegrown players you'll find, so the playing field might be leveled a bit.

What does everyone think? Possible multiboard as well admins?

Won't happen. I don't think the premier league teams would get onside with the idea and would likely threaten to not enter, which would be bad for the football league for commercial reasons.

It breaks a simple law, whereby it discriminates against every nationality but British. I can't believe I even had to answer it.

Why are you so serious?

I don't know the ins and outs of the FA and discrimination laws, but surely if the FA wanted to set up a tournament along these lines for the benefit of the national team nobody would come our screaming discrimination

I'm sure the EU players who are protected against discrimination of their nationality under EU law would come out screaming, why wouldn't they?

Why so serious? It's a serious topic. Or did you make the article for a joke?

And how would this benefit the national team? Do
You think any club would take it more seriously than now?

Would it be filled with youth players who otherwise won't play? How does that help. It would virtually be reserve team football.

How would it break any laws? Does international football break these laws as well?

What is your problem? You asked a question, I answered it.

This can't happen, we have laws to abide by. The pleasures of being in the EU see to that.

I didn't make the laws, so stop whining at me about it.
