The Don & Darko era beginneth....

Yet another new chapter in the history of our colourful all-White clad club begins today.

Against Brentford!

No disrespect to our friends from the west side of Londinium but when I started my journey all those years ago (1967) I didn't expect the likes of Brentford to be cropping up as a league fixture.

Nonetheless our rise, fall, rise and further fall has been well documented and I for one believe that we're on the rise again with Mr Cellino.

Off field issues are getting resolved, the club certainly appears to be in a healthier position.

The squad we have now is infinitely better than the one that McDermott left us with and dare I say it, has more potential than the one that got us out of League One.

A bit of a hiccup with our Dave, but he's played his part. The team look up for it for a full ninety minutes and they are playing as a team. No longer reliant on one player, such as the Scottish striker, goals are flowing from all parts.

Credit to Redfearn for a truly remarkable caretaker stint. Given the poor showing in his previous tenures I can't help thinking that this four match run is a combination of Redfearn's improvement as a coach, the players starting to click, 15 new players is a tall order for any manager, good groundwork by Hockaday and a new confidence sweeping across ER.

Darko Milanic. Welcome to our club. On paper, well on my tablet, he certainly looks like the real deal. Good pedigree as a player, an international and as a manager. Leeds United is an obvious step up in his career. Any managerial/head coach appointment is a gamble but as with Cellino, my gut feel is that this appointment is a good fit for our club.

I fully expect Leeds United to win today but it won't be an easy task. We've got players moving up their gears at the right time and a few more yet to start. Get the far too frequent defensive frailties sorted and we'll be looking at a team that should fear no one in this league.

Promotion within two years was the target. Seemed like a tall order just a few months ago but achievable with the right mix. I think we have that now and we'll go on to surprise a few more this season. Top ten is the very least we'll achieve in my opinion.

Cellino, Salerno & Milanic. The three wise men! Well maybe not but you get my drift. Good times ahead. We'll never be without controversy so let's just get on with it, Harvey et al do your worst, We are Leeds United and We'll never be defeated.

Thanks to those who've offered their good wishes for today, daughter #2 (of five ) is tying the knot. Her husband to be was a Manchester United fan, although he's never been to Manchester or a Manchester United game (funny that!) but thanks to the efforts of many in recent years has decided to support someone else now. If he hadn't, he wouldn't be getting married today.........

Have a good day one and all, have a great start to your career Mr Milanic, three points would help, please. I was going to add that I'm sure Darko would get blown away by our travelling support but we're not that welcoming........ Are we

I think it's an awful thread. Far too positive about our leadership. Overly supportive and downright wrong.

Oh and I also agree with 2020, anyone who has five daughters needs their head testing...!

My get out clause was that the first born was my son. Kept trying for another one.........

Good Luck to you and your daughter today. Only have 2 daughters and they both know the deal is no scuum fans for their other halves.

Stevie,

there's a saying, you got to know when to stop

A man becomes instantly poor as soon as he marries, but to have 5 daughters, and after they all get married...........jeez.

I'll start putting a few cans of beans away for you ...

Great article Stevie.

Best wishes to your daughter as she embarks on a new road in her life. Congratulations on converting your misguided soon-to-be son-in-law and making him see the light

(Cue tenuous link to dark)

Let's hope for 3 points for Darko and the lads as they also embark on their new road together.

Hopefully they can make it the perfect day for you - there just can't be another result other than a win all round can there?

You always seem to post well thought out and balanced articles Stef.
I too first watched the great Don's side in 1967, so have been on the same roller coaster as you and maybe that plays a part in having a similar outlook and attitude.
Six kids though, that suggests you should have invested in a telly sooner lol!
Enjoy your day and let's hope the mighty whites add to the memory of it!

Thank you

Everyone is running around like headless chickens and she who wants to be obeyed has taken to wearing a "fascinator" already even though kick-off isn't til some time later.

The "fascinator" is made up of a piece of material, a feather or two and a piece of wire. When I heard about the price tag I nearly died, I'm in the wrong business!

Yes Eddie, good times. We know what we're capable of but that's balanced out by some of the darker experiences.

Despite all the success one of my favourite times was under Eddie Gray watching a great crop of youngsters coming through. Not dissimilar to what we're witnessing today........

I'm still in bed, got up, had breakfast and now safely tucked up again. Parents and kids everywhere, not safe for the likes of me!!
