Arthur Abraham V Paul Smith WBO

WBO World super middleweight title:

Wayne Rooney got himself an early red card so he could private jet it off to this fight in Germany.

Abraham heavy favourite and should take Smith out but anything can happen.

Gutted for Smith. I had him by a round but thought he'd probably lose by 2/3.

Abraham probably won by 3-4 rounds. He was hitting Smith with the cleaner shots all night long. Smith was the more active.

Biggest travesty since Dunne was given the decision over Ali

If the only thing that counts is cleaner shots then all you'd have to do is hit your opponent once or twice clean and then cover up. Workrate has to come in somewhere too.

Gutted for Smith but hopefully he'll get another chance or at least a couple of good pay days on the back of that

Well done Paul, but I thought the decision was correct .(not the scoring though ! )

I was at the fight. Groves walking around the vip section like he owned the place. Jenny Nelson was brilliant pre fight singing along with the 500 or so scouses that flew over and generally having a good laugh. The bouncers got slapped by the German-Turkish section for ruffing up some old English bloke.
As to the fight...Paul even though fighting at his natural weight in comparison just didn't have the power to trouble Abraham. Lost every round bar round 6 or 7 but has heart.

Highlight of the night was Vincent Feignbutz. One for the future that's for sure.

Feigngutz ,looks promising ,is Sauerland his promoter ? I think he's been sparring with Groves .

Yea, he's part of the Sauerland set-up and was Abrahams sparing partner leading up to the fight. So much upper body strength with great lateral movement. Hate making comparisons but he reminded me of a young Tyson in physical shape movement and power. He lifted Natsulishvili off his feet with the first knockdown ffs.

As it happens, Groves was the first person asking for a photo with him as he came down from the ring...showing his respects already.
