Captain Lescott

Joleon Lescott was once again outstanding in defence bossing the penalty area and directing his fellow defenders including even Fozzie. The difference he makes to the solidarity of the back four and the team in general poses the question, should the captaincy be given over to Jo?

Brunt may have upped his game since the Everton debacle but, he is not a natural leader of men and allows his chin to drop and moans if things do not go right. Lescott cajoles his team mates and talks them through the game. You could even hear him in Row 44 BRE !

AI said before the weekend that the armband isn't a requirement to be a leader on the pitch and I have to agree. The formal pecking order may be Brunt and Jonas but Lescott appears to have picked up the baton and has the respect of those around him.

Lescott looks a cut above anything else we have and its clear he inspires the defenders around him. I have been surprised how comfortable he is on the ball as well

Such a difference to last season where there was a collective intake of breath every time Olsson, Ridgewell, Reid were anywhere near the ball. Pocognoli deserves credit for that as well who looks like an absolute snip.
