So it turns out the flares on the pitch were our fault for not doing cavity searches on the Gala fans as they came into the ground last night.

The fine Arsenal will receive will be in consideration of your comments though. It will be no more than a slap on the wrist.
Nonetheless Arsenal are ultimately responsible for whom they let into the stadium, and have the right to refuse admission should they see fit.
Many grounds around Europe operate a heightened security policy for contentious fixtures, and I suspect AFC will operate the same, the next time Gala are in N5.

So they'll punish us for not doing an impossible thing? Slap on the wrist or not, that's insane.

It’s not impossible though.
The club could have used hand held scanning devices (like at airports) to quickly scan each Gala fan which would be able to detect any sulphur contained in flares. This procedure is undertaken in grounds all around Europe, and is not overly time consuming.
Given the reputation and history of Galatasaray’s supporters this would probably been the best solution.

Do grounds usually do that? Seriously? I was unaware. Fair enough then.

Some have had to in an effort to curb hooliganism. Metal detectors etc too.
PL grounds thankfully no longer have these problems but remember seeing a documentary leading up to Euro 2012 (Poland and Ukraine) and the fans there were nuts (not in a good way!)

Arsenal will not face charges over flares thrown on the pitch in their Champions League game with Galatasaray after Uefa dropped disciplinary action.
European football's governing body have fined Galatasaray £39,570 for their part in the disturbance.
A statement added that the Turkish club must pay to repair damage caused to the Emirates Stadium by visiting fans.
Well that clears that up then. And to think I was so worried too, after some random bloke on a football forum insisted it was Arsenal's fault...
