I’m sure City still paying part of his wages

---

They're not allowed to. It was widely known only him and Bale were on over 100k.

"You might not have personally said that a player working hard is a bad thing, but that is the general consensus of the comments on here"

Not at all. The consensus is it's a weak thing to praise a player for, I gave Holtby as an example.. hard work is nice but without an end product - in this case goals and assists - it doesn't count for much.

Basically there is good reason to question his contribution, the numbers are there in black and white. If he was a young player like Kane or new to the league I'd say give him time.. I guess we might get another purple patch of of him, who knows

I think you’re missing the point, I’m not debating whether simply working hard is good enough to warrant praise. I’m defending Ade against the accusation that working hard to chase down defenders is a waste of time. I believe this is what the first line of defence (i.e. the lone striker) should be doing – and a player should be praised rather than mocked for carrying out this duty or instruction. I’m pretty confident that chasing down defenders wouldn’t be criticized if it were any other player - quite the contrary in fact.

As for City paying his wages and/or not being allowed to, now i dont know how reliable the sources are but there are quite a few on the net that suggests the following:

"Manchester City are still covering a percentage of Emmanuel Adebayor's Tottenham wages.

While it's reported Adebayor is on £85,000-a-week at Spurs, the striker actually earns more than double that because Manchester City still pay nearly £100k-a-week on top.

This is the reason why finding a new club for Adebayor has proved so difficult for Tottenham".

As i say, how reliable it is i dont know but this would make quite a lot of sense.

About as reliable as tribalfootball.com.. what seems more likely is that he was paid a lump sum to cover the shortfall. Paying another club's player must be a conflict of interest for a start..

And I'm not missing the point at all, you said the general consensus was something it wasn't, I put you right. I haven't seen anyone say closing down is a waste of time, it's crucial to the way Pochettino wants us to play.. crack on though

I kindly refer you back to Page 2 of this article, where you will see this debating point begins when I answer Don’s post that Ade chasing down defenders “leads to nothing”, “doesn’t benefit the team”, or that Ade is “chasing loose pointless balls”, and Edin agreed with Don by saying “Ade tracks down pointlessly” etc.

The debate has generally continued (or “cracked on” ) from that point onwards, and we are now at Page 6. If you would rather ignore the trail of the article and make it up as you go along, this is also fine.

Don’t worry about minor insignificancies such as this though, and enjoy the boards as you see fit.

Kind regards

Chicken…..

Chronic

Having "debated" with Chicken before I can safely say it's a waste of time. Entertaining for a while I guess

Bãlès,

What a kop out….

Even though this is an anonymous forum, posters are still too stubborn to simply say “Oops you were right ”.

Instead, posters like Bãlès (and to some extent, Chronic) still desperately try to save face by having a dig of some kind – this time Bãlès way of saving face is by claiming I can “argue in an empty room” . If giving an opinion on an article is "starting an argument", this would mean every single member has compulsive argumentative disorder….

As for it being a waste of time debating with Chicken, well it certainly is if you don’t even have a bstard clue what the article topic is about….

It would take a far better man / woman to simply say “I got it wrong, fair enough. I agree because……. / I disagree because…”.

Just some advice….
