The only positive about the new ridiculous format is Bale might get to play in a major international tournament.

Hasn't Bale missed a couple of friendlies with Wales as well?

Wales actually have a decent chance this year, between them, Israel and Bosnia for 2nd and 3rd and if they play as well as they can there's no reason they couldn't take one of them..

Would worry about them finishing 3rd and going to a playoff though, think they would lose it...

Real Madrid always surprise me with their lack of interference when it comes to Bale and Ronaldo playing for countries that are never going to set the world on fire.

I am sure I remember Coleman talking about not playing or selecting him for a certain friendly because he needed a rest...

Probably worth remembering that Giggs was fairly injury prone when he was younger. It is okay pushing yourself a bit harder when you'll just be more fatigued, avoiding injuries is more understandable altogether...
