Remember Di Canio's rant about his players?
He questioned their attitudes and effectively accused some of the Sunderland players of not trying.
Yes Poyet was more polite yesterday but wasn't that effectively what he did in his post match interview after losing to Southampton?
And in their own ways did they have a fair point? Or was it just a bad day at the office for Sunderland?
If they did, even allowing for the human aspect of a thrashing, is it ever acceptable to stop trying in a game?
Heck even 4-0 down at Wembley our players kept trying to score in 94.
Did Di Canio have a point?

They just couldn't be bothered
Numerous players lost the ball in midfield and didn't chase back after it
Whether it was just something like the journey had taken their toll on them or its something more deep rooted than that, time will tell.

Look at what happened to Arsenal at St James Park when Newcastle refused to give up. They have to keep playing hard until the very end.
