Imo he should. He's done his time in prison, apologised and is a free man now.
Of course it was wrong what he did no doubt. Yes he should be a role model, but what kind of a message does it send out if he doesn't get a job again?

I know someone who had a similar situation. He was 17 and she was 15/16 I think. She made all the moves and bought them both booze but couldn't remember it so he got done for statutory rape, went to prison and will now spend the rest of his life on the offenders register.

As an Alcohol Counsellor of some 30 years standing at a very senior level and given the amount of alcohol the woman is supposed to have drunk, it is perfectly reasonable to assume that she would be able to function pretty normally at the time but is likely to have forgotten what had happened. The only "proof" that anyone had intercourse that night comes from the statements of the two footballers concerned, and absolutely nothing else. It is retrospective ignorance to conclude that because someone is unable to remember the events of the previous night it must mean that they were not functioning adequately the night before - perfectly possible to give consent/even initiate sexual activity, and then not remember this the day afterwards. Do read the website if you want a more informed view before making what might be very inaccurate judgements: http://www.chedevans.com/

Thank god I've never had a similar experience with that, but the law can be so beneficial to women sometimes.
Imagine two people going on a first date. The woman goes into the night deciding shes not going to go all the way. But after 10+ drinks each, they're both smashed, all up on each other at a club, having a great time. She could ask to go home with him, flirt with him the whole cabride back, and then get into bed with him. But if they both wake up not remembering the end of the night, she could technically charge him with rape. That's not right in my mind, especially considering how terrible of a crime actual rape is.
