Here is to add a bit of variety to the forum by not focussing on our match. And what more, it's a positive article...
I tuned into BT to see what West Ham were all about this year. And it was impressive. Adrian is probably the weakest part of that XI, and that's not a real problem position for them.
What I really liked about their side was their full backs. Cresswell is a real find for them. And Jenkinson on the other side- he seems familiar...
I thought Carl looked a really really good player today. He almost had a 'Berahino' atm where he didn't run it into the corner. Not that there was any time for City to counter.
He looks like he has all the same sort of qualities that he had for us; just now he has the confidence because he knows that he is the first choice in his position. He gets up and down the pitch as well as any full back, and he generally has some end product as well. In terms of defending, he made one impressive interception in front of Aguero when they were sat deep, which was the sort of action we probably would not have seen from him at Arsenal. West Ham defended well as a unit, and Jenkinson was a part of that, although he had the wonderful Sakho to hell him out as well.
I really think that Jenkinson can come back next season of the required standard for Arsenal. I know you say we need him now, but from his perspective, this loan is great for his development. With Debuchy, Bellerin and Carl, it really looks like Chambers will not be required to play at RB after this year.
It will be interesting to see how long Debuchy lasts at right back, with at least two promising young players in his position looking to break through.
Carl Jenkinson

Jenkinson needed game time and that is showing at West Ham. Not a fantastic player but is good for cover for Debuchy

Good article
I've always thought Jenkinson was a very good full-back: he's incredibly athletic, comfortable on the ball, and great in one-on-one defensive situations.
I think his key weakness is his poor heading technique.
This isn't necessarily a massive issue for a full-back, but considering how few aerially strong players we have in the side, it was unlikely that he was ever going to get ahead of Sagna (probably our third best headerer of a ball other than our 2 CBs). After Sagna left, Wenger clearly wanted another aerially strong full-back to take his place, and in Debuchy and Chambers, we now have two very good options in this respect.
He's very tall for a full-back, so if he can improve his timing, power, and direction when dealing with aerial balls, there's no reason he can't become a first-team player for us next season.

Jenko was great for us a few seasons bk when Sagna broke his leg. So much so that it had people calling for him not to be dropped when Sagna returned. Sadly he was dropped and he only ever played a game here and there where obviously he wasn't as good due to the lack of game time.
Jenki - Chambers - Mert - Gibbs could have held us together until the Jan window Imo

He will probably demand to be let go to West Ham after this season. And ARsenal will probably let him go

Do you know Carl Jenkinson at all? He will want to stay at Arsenal for as long as he feels he can make it at all.

No Arsenal wanted to sell him this season. He wanted to go on loan as he wants to play for us.

Must admit I was shocked when I heard he was going on loan. Thought he was ready to compete with debuchy. Bellerin looks really good so far tho

bellerin doesn't look good godfather, totally disagree.
Carl needed a loan, he looked well short of standard unless low standards is what people want.
Lets hope he learns a lot at west ham playing regularly and comes back a much better player.

At the time it looked a good deal. CJ would get a season of first choice action, Arsenal would have Debuchy and Chambers at RB, along with Per, LK and one other at CB with Chambers being an additional option. And of course two experienced left backs.
Then we didn't buy the CB we were promised, and it has all gone to shît. Now it looks an awful decision.

It would look a better decision if Wenger trusted Bellerin to start games like today. Or, you could argue, he isn't good enough to start these matches. Either way, playing Monreal at centre back in the Stadium of Light is not a scenario any of us relished in June or July.
