Need to Abandon the League and Cup Team

Poch needs to quit with the play one team in the league, and a totally separate team in the cup.

we need to mix and match. i am in favour of rotation.

we cannot have chadli lamela and eriksen every single game behind adebayor, we know that doesn't work.

soldado should have started up top, and probably kane in the 3 behind.

i like that poch wants to use his full squad but the two teams MUST have rotation between them.

if you excel in the cup team then you take the place of a player struggling in the league side.

also Poch needs to learn to adapt his team/system/tactics depending on opposition.

its a squad game, and although old timers like sandy won't like it, playing the same 11 all the time, in this day and age just doesn't work, you need to be flexible.

anyway, rubbish result, poor performance, but we all knew that the first half season under Poch would be rocky, and it is

i am still 100% behind him, but he needs to understand that this isn't southampton any more….. a reasonable top half finish doesn't cut it here…. we are a consistent top 6 team, and thats the standard we have set for ourselves.

the following players need dropping for the game at villa.

lamela (flattering to deceive, play kane instead)
adebayor (play soldado instead)
dier (he is really struggling, and anyone else who can play rb needs to play there)

anyway, lets hope we make up for it next game v brighton.

be patient, and keep the faith, its a long season.

The fact that West Ham and Southampton are doing so well, and Liverpool last season, really shows how much of a benefit it is to not have any European commitments. Not to take anything away from how well they've done too of course besides that.

To be honest I think there is more wrong than a couple of players not playing well.

Newcastle have been crap all season but won at our place. WBA were total crap all season but won at our place. Pool have not played well all season but won at our place. Maybe anybody with half a brain would realise that ANYBODY can win at WHL so we need to know why.

Firstly take away the QPR game (cos they were total crap) and we have scored twice in 4 games at home.

Obviously thats as big a worry as our defending.

Teams know we dont score and dont even look like scoring half the time. IMO the chief reason for this is the team selection and the tactics. MP is getting it wrong big time IMO.

He has a way that he likes his teams to play but he needs a certain type of player to do that and we dont have that type of player. Therefore IMO he has to change his ways until such times as he does have those type of players. This he has refused to do.

No I am not saying we should sack him thats a nonsense but I am saying he needs a rethink.

Yes we have major weaknesses in defence but again tactics come into question. We press high up the field, we dont win the ball and teams run at our back 4 with virtually no protection from the midfield. Sorry but for me Capoue simply does not do enough to protect us, but to be fair he is not really there to protect full backs which is where we keep getting exposed with Chadli and Lamela being inside 75% of the game. Again all of our midfield players are guilty of giving the ball away with Lamela being a major offender. Again the pressing game sees us with 2/3 sometimes 4 players committed in a 10 yard square high up the pitch. Pure mathmatics tells you that we will be in trouble if we dont win the ball or give it away and we regularly dont win the ball and/or give it away.

IMO if MP had an ounce of common sense he would revert to a safe option which is 4-4-2. both full backs then get cover and dont have to cover as much ground trying to get forwards every minute or so and we might actually score with 2 players up front which we are obviously not doing with one player up there.

I really had high hopes for MP but so far I have to say he has disappointed me more each game. Again IMO he left it far to late to try and get the goal back today. He bought Soldado on with about 8 minutes or so to go which was a pure waste. Soldado has struggled to score when he has played 60 minutes ffs was anybody expecting him to score in 8 minutes?

If he persists with two inverted wingers and no cover for our full backs its going to be one hell of a poor season.

Excellent points you make, the high line is not working full stop as you say. And the so-called midfield enforcers are not doing their jobs. The opposition midfielders seem to be able to break at will through our flimsy midfield, even midweek against what was basically a pub team, the broke through easily and created 4 or 5 good chances. Something is seriously wrong with the set-up.

Watching MOTD it was laughable how easily Sissoko (i think) managed to wriggle through our midfield to set up the 2nd goal
