I know understand that Everton are very interested in young Jack McKay.
The 17 year old is 6'3" tall and has scored 15 goals so far this year. His twin brother is also with the academy and plays in the centre Back.
I thought one of the aims of the current management was to develop and bring through our young talent. Why is it then that we don't have this young man signed, when I believe his twin is on our books.
Mind you his dad is Willie McKay, he will have irons in many fires.

Obviously his dad is likely to want the best for him, but languishing in the Development squad of a PL club, where usually the policy is to sign overseas internationals for the first team cannot help or encourage the UK-born youngsters. The money is there though and the lure of the PL.
If Rovers were looking good for promotion and had a good coaching staff McKay might well be prepared to encourage his son to stick around for a year or so at least. Perhaps if Dickov had given him his chance at first team level that would influence him in the right way.
Sadly there is nothing particularly attractive about DRFC at the moment. To think too it was not all that long ago when we were going to Palace (another of the interested clubs) and beating them thoroughly deservedly.

Yeah a certain Mr Rooney made his debut for Everton about this age. Maybe Mr D cannot recognise a striker. What position did he play ?

Aussie, i have mentioned this lad on another thread earlier today and also a few weeks ago.
As you know, the club owners have stated an intent to keep and develop our youngsters and bring them into the first team in a five year plan.
I, as a Brammall sceptic, have stated often enough that i doubt whether this will happen.
It is inevitable to me that we will sell this type of player.
I understand the economics of the situation and that in reality small clubs like us HAVE to sell our best and up and coming players to be able to survive.
I have seen a clip of Jack McKay scoring a goal in a junior game and although he is 6'3" tall he does still looks like he has to bulk up so given that i wouldn't think he would be strong enough yet for a first team place.
This is very evident with young Wakefield who also looks lightweight against the men in the league one matches.
Rooney has always been a fat barsteward so he fitted in well at Everton at a similar age.
I agree that the financial lure of the PL will take the best young lads to their stables but it can ruin careers, look at what happened to Sharp when he chased the money.

It's just a pipe dream, but how good would it be to be able to hold onto talent.
Mr Messi was a academy product at Barca. Though that's a proper club.
Think of all the good young players from Donny over the years that have eluded the temptation of signing for the Rovers.

Barca is a proper club allright, with loads of money.
They can afford to hang on to talented players.
Not a very good comparison with us really mate.
