Mark Lawrenson recently said that United could put out a second team that would challenge for top six in the Premier League. I say that second team could challenge for the title:
Lindegaard
Rafael
Rio
Vidic
Fabio
Valencia
Carrick
Giggs
Park
Berbatov
Hernandez
In fact, most of that team did win it last year.
Is it me or is it truly exciting that we could put out two teams that could potentially win the league?
Two Teams

That team above is essentially what was left out against Spurs (due to injury or being left out) not necessarily who be first choice if fit.
I know there would be injuries and suspensions etc, meaning it would technically be possible to put out two teams, the point I was more making is that if injury were to strike then we have enough options to cope without a significant loss of function.
I also missed out Amos, Fletcher, Pogba, Morrison, Gibson, Owen, Machada and Diouf.

U 6657 & RedBlackand White are arguing semantics
It's really two ways of saying the same thing; you are both saying we've got a very good squad.
i.e
The second team is good enough to win the league
or
If all the first team were injured then the rest of the squad would be good enough to win the league

I wasn't having a go at you. All I mean is, I think everyone understands that a squad of 11 players couldn't win the league (unless they had bionic legs), so we can understand the original point to mean that we could field two teams that look good enough to be the preferred XI of a side challenging for the title.

Mark Lawrenson is generally ridiculed on this board for his 'tache and also for the fact that apparently he hasn't got a clue what he is talking about...
Has that changed all of a sudden?

No. I think he's talking rubbish.

I can't work out why we're even contemplating having a second team, and not pursuing Red Russian's bionic leg idea!

Yep they could challenge for top six in the premier league no doubt about it I would even say higher, even go as far as winning it but with the standings as
Derry City
Shamrock Rovers
Sligo Rovers
St Patrick's
Bohemians
Not that much to beat really
He was talking about the Irish Premier league wasn't he??

Well Lawro is wrong.
If United split the squad like the OP suggests and played two teams for the entire season in the PL both would fail to finish top, due to injury, fatigue and suspensions.
Its our strength in depth that sees us through. United are one team and all members of the squad are equally part of it.

Have you based your theory on the x2 United´s being the only 2 teams in the PL not able to add substitutions and additional players to cover for injuries etc? Seems you may have missed that point!
Im(little)o, if the same rule applied to all the other teams involved in this hypothetical situation, then our two teams would finish top 3 most seasons!
